Operations Respiratory Manager

Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for the maintenance and quality of patient care on a continuing basis for the Respiratory Services Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.

  • Work closely with the Administrative Director in the development of operational standards, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain work schedule on Kronos
  • Enforce time and attendance policies and procedures throughout respiratory services
  • Enforce hospital and departmental policies regarding uniforms and procedures throughout the Respiratory Services Department
  • Have a good working knowledge of insurance coverage, pre-certification requirements, charge master, cost estimates, and collections and denial management in order to provide the necessary support to financial staff
  • Investigate, identify, and prepare proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with the Director of Clinical Operations
  • Plan, organize, and direct all Respiratory Services
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for Respiratory Services
  • Review Respiratory Services’ performance and implement changes as needed to improve services and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that all of Respiratory Services operates within the allocated funds
  • Evaluate Respiratory Services’ practices, including record keeping, to ensure that high quality of care is provided; generate a report for the Director of Clinical Operations
  • Participate in intra and inter-departmental quality teams to improve the quality of services
  • Encourage professional development of departmental personnel through in-service training
  • Develop & evaluate standards of performance and job descriptions for all departmental staff
  • Ensure that adequate staffing levels are maintained at all times
  • Ensure that Respiratory Services meets all Federal and State regulations
  • Review all departmental policies and procedures
  • Consult with Administration and the Medical Staff Committee on policies which need their approval
  • Function as a liaison between physicians, therapists and other support staff
  • Establish and maintain communications within the Respiratory Services department and other hospital departments as necessary
  • Develop relationships with professional affiliations as appropriate
  • Maintain Respiratory Services facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and staff
  • Work closely with the various departments’ clinical leads to identify and design future needs and efficient workflow processes
  • Review feedback from customers and analyze support data to recommend changes as needed
  • Assist in interviewing, hiring, orienting, and managing all employees in the Respiratory Services department
  • Review the activities of vendors at all phases of installation and during the implementation of new systems
  • Prepare reports for Administration regarding all aspects of the Respiratory Services operations as appropriate and directed
  • Work effectively with diverse groups of people
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and other staff meetings as requested
  • Adhere to all hospital and department policies and procedures
  • Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
  • Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care

Supervisory Responsibilities

Reports to: Director, Clinical Operations

Supervises: Respiratory Therapists and Respiratory Therapy Technicians

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

Preferred Education: Bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy

Experience: 3+ years’ management experience in the Respiratory Services field

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Applicants must be RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) and BLS certified in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
