Operations Superintendent, PCTC

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Superintendent (Operations) for one of our global shipowner clients. The Superintendent (Operations) will be responsible for managing the day-to-day marine operational activities of assigned vessels to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant voyage execution.

The ideal candidate will have strong commercial operational experience, with good knowledge of charterparty requirements, port and terminal regulations, and PCTC (RO-RO) operational standards. The role works closely with vessel Masters, chartering teams, agents and internal stakeholders to support smooth voyage execution while maintaining high standards of safety, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure vessels and crews comply with port/terminal rules, flag/industry regulations and charterparty (C/P) terms.
  • Advise and support Masters with pre‑berthing, pre‑loading and terminal inspections.
  • Review and approve vehicle stowage and lashing plans, ramp arrangements and cargo‑access procedures; advise on deck loading limits, vehicle heights/weights and lashing material requirements.
  • Coordinate with charterers, shippers and terminals on vehicle readiness requirements (fuel levels, batteries, steering locks, keys, immobilisation procedures, etc.) and confirm carrier/terminal acceptance.
  • Monitor vessel progress, weather, routing and fuel/bunker needs; arrange weather routing where needed and advise Master on routing choices consistent with C/P.
  • Liaise with agents to agree proforma disbursements and operational arrangements; approve reasonable voyage/owners’ disbursements.
  • Track and report vessel movements and ETA/ETD to charterers and stakeholders; respond promptly to customer queries and complaints.
  • Review and investigate operational incidents, near misses or customer feedback; follow up corrective actions and report tomanagement.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of voyage costsand timely funding of disbursements.
  • Monitor vessel performance and follow up on under‑performing ships.
  • Support internal audits, inspections and non‑conformance follow‑ups; coordinate with SQE on safety, quality and environmental initiatives.
  • Coach and supervise a team of Operations Executives / Senior Executives.

Experience & skills

  • Certificate of Competency – Master Mariner (Class 1) with a minimum of 6 months command experience on relevant vessels; OR
  • Certificate of Competency – Chief Officer (Class 1) with a minimum of 36 months sailing experience on relevant vessels; OR
  • Minimum 2 years as an Operations Superintendent in a ship-owning or management environment.
  • Experience in PCTC / Ro‑Ro commercial operations or related ship operations role.
  • Practical knowledge of stowage, lashing and Ro‑Ro cargo handling.
  • Good understanding of charterparty clauses and voyage operations.
  • Ability to review loading/discharge plans and ensure vessel readiness
  • Experience handling charterer issues, operational disputes and claims
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management (Masters, agents, charterers, terminals).
