Paintings Conservator / Conservation Specialist
Key responsibilities
- Conduct condition assessments of paintings and prepare detailed condition reports.
- Perform conservation treatment and restoration work in accordance with professional conservation standards.
- Document conservation processes through written reports and photographic records.
- Carry out preventive conservation activities, including cleaning, monitoring, and artefact care.
- Assist with exhibition installation, de-installation, and gallery maintenance activities.
- Provide recommendations on framing, mounting, handling, and display requirements for paintings.
- Support incoming and outgoing loan activities, including condition checks and courier assignments when required.
Requirements:
- Diploma, Degree, Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Conservation, Art Restoration, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in paintings conservation, restoration, or collections care.
- Experience working with paintings, artworks, or cultural heritage artefacts.
- Knowledge of conservation principles, materials, techniques, and professional ethics.
- Ability to prepare clear conservation reports and maintain accurate documentation records.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a museum, gallery, heritage institution, or similar environment will be an advantage.
- Able to work independently, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and operate in a multicultural work environment.
