Paintings Conservator / Conservation Specialist

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct condition assessments of paintings and prepare detailed condition reports.
  • Perform conservation treatment and restoration work in accordance with professional conservation standards.
  • Document conservation processes through written reports and photographic records.
  • Carry out preventive conservation activities, including cleaning, monitoring, and artefact care.
  • Assist with exhibition installation, de-installation, and gallery maintenance activities.
  • Provide recommendations on framing, mounting, handling, and display requirements for paintings.
  • Support incoming and outgoing loan activities, including condition checks and courier assignments when required.

Requirements:

  • Diploma, Degree, Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Conservation, Art Restoration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in paintings conservation, restoration, or collections care.
  • Experience working with paintings, artworks, or cultural heritage artefacts.
  • Knowledge of conservation principles, materials, techniques, and professional ethics.
  • Ability to prepare clear conservation reports and maintain accurate documentation records.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent observational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in a museum, gallery, heritage institution, or similar environment will be an advantage.
  • Able to work independently, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and operate in a multicultural work environment.
