Part-time School Nurse

Part-time School Nurse (4 hours per day)

Position Summary

The Part-time School Nurse provides primary medical support to students, including administering first aid, managing medications for allergies or other conditions, and liaising with parents and faculty. The role requires maintaining accurate medical records, advising on health-related matters, implementing health policies, and participating in emergency planning and response. Additionally, the School Nurse partners with teachers to deliver age-appropriate health, hygiene, and wellness education directly to students within the classroom environment. This is a year-round position which supports daily school operations as well as the summer programs and boarding students, as needed.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Medical Support

• Provide first line support to students with medical needs, including administration of first aid and administration of medication where approved (e.g. by the student’s family), and liaison with local medical providers.
• Communicate with professionalism and confidentiality to parents, staff, and students.
• Manage special cases where individuals have allergies and/or requirements for specific medication.
• Deliver first aid, CPR, and other relevant training to employees at least annually, or on an as-needed basis, including when students participate in field trips.
• Transport students to clinics, hospitals, and other medical facilities and provide translation as needed.

2. Compliance & Documentation

• Maintain accurate records of all visits to the health office, student medical needs (dietary, allergy, medication, etc.), and emergency plans for students with specific or chronic conditions, and share information as appropriate in accordance with the school’s privacy policy.
• Implement and maintain policies and procedures for provision of school health services, including prevention, surveillance, and outbreak management of communicable diseases.
• Participate in the school’s crisis management and emergency response planning activities as requested, including communication with local emergency services in the event of an emergency.
• Ensure the health office environment is hygienic, welcoming, and adequately stocked with medical and other supplies.

3. Preventative Health

• Collaborate with school occupational physician (産業医 sangyou-i) where applicable on matters pertaining to workplace health and safety.
• Advise the leadership team and other school administrators on matters pertaining to health and well-being, including the interpretation of health mandates issued by local authorities.
• Organize medical screening for students and employees on a periodic basis, as requested by the Head of School or either of the Divisional Principals.
• Collaborate with teachers and deliver age-appropriate lessons on hygiene, physical health, and wellness for students.

4. General

• Support the school community with their medical questions, needs, or concerns in an approachable and compassionate manner.
• Support school events and participate in a collaborative and professional manner in various initiatives as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Fully bilingual in English and Japanese
• Open-minded and comfortable operating in a multicultural environment
• Strong collaborator with experience working within and across teams

• Relevant nursing experience in an international environment, preferably in a school or similar setting.
• Experience teaching or delivering health/hygiene education to children appropriate to the age of the students.
• Relevant qualifications and certifications in first aid and health and safety, either in Japan or overseas.

職務概要

職務内容

医療支援

• 生徒の医療的ニーズに対して初期対応を行う（応急処置や保護者から承認された薬の投与など）。また、地域の医療機関との連携を行う。
• 保護者、教職員、生徒に対して、専門性と守秘義務を持って対応する。
• アレルギーや特定の薬の必要がある生徒への個別対応・管理を行う。
• 教職員に対して、応急処置やCPR（心肺蘇生法）などの関連研修を少なくとも年1回、または必要に応じて実施（校外学習など）。
• 生徒をクリニックや病院などの医療機関へ搬送し、必要に応じて通訳を行う。

コンプライアンスおよび記録管理

• 保健室訪問記録、生徒の医療ニーズ（食事、アレルギー、投薬など）、慢性的・特定疾患に対する緊急対応計画などを正確に記録・管理し、学校のプライバシーポリシーに従って必要な情報を共有。
• 学校の健康サービスに関する方針と手順を策定・維持する。これには、感染症の予防、監視（サーベイランス）、および集団発生（アウトブレイク）時の管理を含む。
• 必要に応じて、学校の危機管理・緊急時対応計画に関する活動に参加し、緊急時には地域の救急サービス（消防・医療機関等）との連携も行う。
• 保健室の衛生で、温かみのある雰囲気を保ち、医療品およびその他の備品を適切に在庫管理する。

予防医療

• 該当する場合は、産業医と連携し、職場の安全衛生に関する事項を扱う。
• 学校のリーダーシップチームや管理者に対し、健康と福祉に関する助言を行う。これには地方自治体から出される健康指針の解釈をサポートも含まれる。
• 学園長や校長の要請に応じて、生徒および教職員の定期健康診断を手配する。
• 教員と連携し、生徒に対して衛生、身体的健康、およびウェルネスに関する年齢に応じた授業を行う。

一般的な対応

• 学校コミュニティからの医療に関する質問、ニーズ、または懸念に対して、親しみやすく思いやりのある対応を行う。
• 学校行事へのサポートを行い、必要に応じてチームと協力しながら専門的に参加する。
