Part-Time Specialist (Gallery Assistant)

Compensation Range:

$15.21 - $20.34

Position Summary:

Hiring hourly range: $15.21 to $16.73 depending on qualifications.

Job Summary:

Works in collaboration with gallery staff to support exhibitions, collections, and arts programming across the college.

Job Duties:

  • Perform general clerical support, which may include generating lists, preparing forms, communication with stakeholders, and other similar tasks.

  • Assist with installation and de-installation of exhibitions. Includes preparation of exhibition spaces, such as patching, painting, labeling, and basic lighting adjustments under the direction of full-time staff.

  • Handle, move, pack and unpack artwork following professional art-handling procedures.

  • Monitor exhibitions and storage spaces, assisting with routine gallery maintenance.

  • Support collections activities, including artwork handling, location tracking, condition reporting, and basic cataloging and documentation.

  • Assist with artwork storage and collections care.

  • Maintain gallery supplies, tools, equipment inventories, and organized workspaces.

  • Assist in training and providing guidance to student workers and volunteers.

  • Attend exhibition openings, receptions, and other gallery events; assist with event coordination, setup, and breakdown.

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while independently managing assigned projects and responsibilities.

  • Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, artists and the public.

  • Availability to work 20-29 hours per week (may include evenings/weekends with prior approval)

  • Other similar and related duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree

  • Experience in art, art history, or related fields strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with professional standards for handling, inspecting, documenting, installing, packing, and storing artwork preferred; willingness to learn museum best practices.

  • Experience using standard hand and power tools, hardware, ladders, and appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds, work on ladders, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with exhibition installation and gallery operations.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a college van or similar vehicle for artwork transportation.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
