Job Title: Patching Engineer (Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) / Windows Server platforms)

Contract Duration: 12 Months (Potential to Extend)

Role Summary:

The Patching Engineer is responsible for managing and executing patching activities across enterprise server environments, with a primary focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and secondary support for Windows Server platforms. The role ensures systems remain secure, compliant, and up to date, while supporting large-scale infrastructure operations and maintaining service stability across distributed environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute end-to-end patch management activities across Linux and Windows server environments, including physical, virtual, and cluster servers.
  • Ensure timely deployment of security patches to maintain compliance and reduce vulnerabilities.
  • Manage and maintain patch baselines, schedules, and execution workflows across platforms.
  • Support large-scale server environments across on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
  • Utilise tools such as BMC TrueSight Orchestration and Tanium for patch deployment and automation.
  • Work within ServiceNow and ITSM processes for change, incident, and problem management.
  • Support weekend patching cycles and maintenance windows as required.
  • Troubleshoot patching failures and coordinate with engineering, application, and infrastructure teams for resolution.
  • Maintain documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures related to patching activities.

Required Skills:

  • Experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (primary) and/or Windows Server administration, including patching and system maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to address patching failures.
  • Good understanding of patch management processes, including scheduling, execution, and validation.
  • Experience working within enterprise-scale environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across global teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on automation and continuous improvement.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with automation and scripting/tools such as Ansible, Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and patch orchestration frameworks.
  • Experience working within financial services or regulated environments.
