Patient Engagement & Marketing Lead

Patient Engagement & Marketing Lead

Valius overview

At Valius, we believe that the future of cancer care will be defined by “maximalist” diagnostics: deep, comprehensive assessments of DNA, RNA, and protein designed to give patients and their care teams the best possible understanding of how their tumor works and what its vulnerabilities are.

We’re building the diagnostics and bioinformatics company to power this future, starting by applying this approach to patients with challenging cancers. In our first year, we worked with over 75 of these patients and, in many cases, identified plausible therapeutic targets which had not been discovered previously. This coming year, we’re on track to scale our patient volume significantly, all while bringing new diagnostic modalities (e.g., single-cell transcriptomics) and analytical approaches into clinical care for the very first time.

We’ve just raised a $13.5M seed round, led by 8VC and Basis Set Ventures, and are looking for people passionate about changing cancer care to join our growing team.

Patient Engagement & Marketing Lead role

We’re hiring a Patient Engagement & Marketing Lead to help patients and their care teams understand the purpose of comprehensive molecular profiling and the value of our scientific service. This is a player-coach role, tasked with setting and executing strategy across two domains. First, you’ll own our patient communication strategy, overseeing our website, blog, and social channels and assisting with any media engagement. Second, you’ll engage directly with referred or inbound patients and their care teams to understand their situation, introduce our service, and support them through the intake process.

You may come from a variety of backgrounds, but you should have:

  • Deep knowledge of oncology and molecular diagnostics

  • Experience communicating directly with patients and/or their care teams

  • Fluency in marketing strategy and hands-on program execution

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

This is an in-person role in San Francisco or Boston.

What you’ll do

  • Engage with referred patients and their care teams: Hold regular meetings with referred patients to understand their situation and present Valius’s service

  • Prioritize marketing programs: Partner with the leadership team to develop Valius’s near-term patient communication strategy, determining which programs to prioritize and what resources to allocate to each

  • Own program execution: Stand up and run patient communication programs across our website, blog, social media, and PR channels while adhering to approved budgets

  • Measure program impact: Assess the effectiveness of patient communication programs relative to the investments made

  • Maintain up-to-date systems: Record patient updates in our internal CRM tool

  • Contribute across the company as needed: Pitch in on cross-functional initiatives as we scale

What you’ll bring

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline (exceptional candidates may be considered in the absence of an advanced degree)

  • Deep understanding of oncology and molecular diagnostics (cultivated through education, research, or industry experience)

  • 2+ years of experience in marketing at a healthcare or life sciences institution

  • Experience communicating directly with patients and/or their care teams

  • Experience managing web and/or social platforms

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

  • Comfort working in a high-stakes, patient-facing setting

  • Commitment to our patient-focused mission

  • Interest in working for a small, early-stage startup

Nice to haves:

  • 1+ years of marketing leadership experience, including experience managing marketing budgets and/or contractors

What we’ll bring

  • Competitive salary and equity compensation

  • Generous refresh grants

  • Comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, 401(k))

  • Genuine investment in your professional development

  • Fun, mission-driven team culture
