Patient Transporter - Full Time

General Description
Under the supervision of the Director of Customer Relations transports patients via wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or other appropriate conveyance throughout the Medical Center upon request of the charge nurse/designee, etc. The transporter will often have sole responsibility for patients before and during transport period. The position has no supervisory responsibility.
Schedule
Full Time, 40 hours, generally 7:30am - 4pm
Characteristic Duties
Transports patients to and from Medical Center departments, clinics and nursing units, or to and from vehicle when assistance is requested utilizing skills with BLS, lifting and moving techniques, customer service, use of specific transport/patientcare equipment.
Assists personnel with the transport of patients as required.
Assists patient moving to from beds, wheelchairs and/or stretchers as required. Observes intravenous Lubing, oxygen tubing,
drainage assembly, and other equipment with/on patient and calls nursing for assistance if any alarms go off, if there are
any concerns related to the condition of the patient or if there is impaired functionality or connectivity of medical equipment. Demonstrates initiative to improve customer service, quality and efficiency.
Transports certain supplies and/or equipment as requested, i.e. ultrasound equipment
Greets and offers assistance, i.e. luggage, wheelchairs, doors, etc. to patients and visitors who are entering or leaving the
Medical Center.
Provides directions and/or general information as requested.
Knows the locations of all areas that normally require transport service.
Performs messenger duties as assigned.
Serves as backup in the Mail Room when needed.
Adheres to the philosophy and objectives, the standards of nursing care and the policies and procedures of the Medical Center. Attends in-service programs pertinent to own practice and all mandatory training.
Assists in maintaining of wheelchairs in all departments that require patient transport.
Assists with identification of wheelchairs in need of repair and tagging that equipment.
Assists in maintaining supplies in all departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High School diploma or GED.
2. Capability to transport patients and supplies throughout the Medical center using proper body mechanics.
3. Communicates effectively in a pleasant, positive manner with patients, hospital staff; and family/visitors.
4. Basic computer skills.
5. Reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
6. Successful completion ofBLS Healthcare Provider during orientation.
