POSITION SUMMARY:
The Ski Patrol Director will oversee all on-hill operations for the Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol department which includes: snow safety, trail work, training, accident investigation, and emergency medical procedures and all summer operations.
The Ski Patrol Director will work closely with the VP of Mountain Operations, Ski Patrol Assistant Director, Snow Safety Director, and Ski Patrol Supervisors to help prioritize and ensure completion of all A-Basin Ski Patrol responsibilities.
WAGE:
The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high ends of Arapahoe Basin’s hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, and responsibilities. The range listed is just one component of Arapahoe Basin’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.
Salary range: $69,680 - $108,160/year
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Oversees and directs all Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol operational concerns including: Snow Safety, Mountain Safety, Terrain Management, Emergency Medical Care, Accident Investigation and CPTSB/High angle rescue.
Oversees and directs all aspects of the Summer Mountain Patrol to include emergency medical response, trail maintenance, bike safety, wedding/special event coverage, and high angle rescue.
Full comprehension of and adherence to the ABSP Union Contract.
Ensures all staff are evaluated under staging guidelines with regular performance reviews.
Responsible for completing and delegating all Ski Patrol administrative functions including scheduling, training, payroll, employee coaching and disciplinary concerns.
Oversees the maintenance of all Ski Patrol related equipment and inventories
Maintains a staging/training program that corresponds to Union expectations and industry standards.
Establish and implement procedures, policies and guidelines to increase safety and efficiency and keep A-Basin at the forefront of Ski Patrol industry trends.
Ensures ABSP provides exceptional customer service to all to provide a day worth repeating for our guests.
Communicates with the VP of Mountain Operations to discuss and understand ski area priorities and maintains a close working relationship with all mountain operations departments.
Supports the Snow Safety goals by ensuring good communication between staff and proper allocation of resources for avalanche mitigation and terrain management.
Ensures Arapahoe Basin is in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
Works daily with supervisors, coordinators, patrollers and the dispatcher to help prioritize and lead daily operational objectives based on available resources.
Helps to organize morning meetings and leads/supervises daily work priorities
Actively participates/oversees daily snow reporting and guest facing information in relation to snow and terrain.
Maintains department employee manual to set employee expectations.
Assists in creating and operates under the Ski Patrol operational budget.
Maintains a culture of guest and worker safety and adheres to all Company and Ski Patrol policies and procedures.
Maintain all ski patrol facilities to a high standard of cleanliness and function.
Interacts closely with other departments and special events staff
Works closely with volunteer paramedic staff
Act as a steward of the company culture and values by demonstrating best practices and mindsets to facilitate a culture of accountable, high-performing and engaged employees.
Partner with leaders at A-Basin to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion competency and practices across teams to develop and support a respectful workplace.
Train and encourage employees to actively participate in sustainability initiatives and support them in maintaining sustainable practices.
Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 4 years of Ski Patrol experience - required
Meets all requirements of Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol staging and special skills positions.
Previous supervisory experience required
Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers, and all ski area management
Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Ski at an expert level - Able to ski all Arapahoe Basin terrain with excellent judgement, control, and confidence
Operate a snowmobile effectively and with good judgement
Strong interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills
Speak, read, and write in English
Proficiency in Microsoft with ability to learn HRIS system (Workday)
Must be available on weekends and holidays
This position requires successful completion of a criminal and Motor Vehicle Record background check
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Current EMT- B Certification
Current CPR/AED Card
State of Colorado Permitted Explosive User
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Can work outside while standing or skiing in a high alpine, wintery environment for up to 10 hours
Able to lift 10-25 pounds 2/3rds of the time or more, able to lift 50 pounds 1/3 to 2/3rds of the time, able to lift 100 pounds up to 1/3rd of the time
Can perform the following activities constantly: walking, using hands to finger/feel, reaching with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear
Vision Requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Withstand high-altitude conditions at all times

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will work in an indoor environment frequently. Will also work outside in a cold, snowy, high alpine environment frequently faced with wet and/or humid conditions. Work is completed in view of customers and customer interaction is frequent. Riding a chairlift is required for this role. Some work time will be spent in an office setting using a computer.
