Description

Location: Remote-first in the EST or CST time zones

The Payments Risk Specialist is responsible for protecting the integrity of Auto Integrate's Network Settlement platform by identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational, payment, fraud, and compliance risks. This role supports the onboarding of shops, monitors payment activity, investigates suspicious behavior, and helps ensure settlement transactions are executed safely and in accordance with company policies and controls.

Who you are

As Network Settlement grows, the Payment Risk Specialist serves as a critical line of defense against fraud, account takeover, payment diversion, onboarding abuse, and operational losses. The role balances risk mitigation with positive customer experience, helping Auto Integrate scale settlement adoption while maintaining trust across fleets, shops, and payment partners. This role works closely with Finance, Product, Support, Legal, and external payment providers.

Your impact

Risk Monitoring & Investigation

  • Monitor settlement activity for suspicious or unusual behavior
  • Investigate potential fraud, payment diversion attempts, and account takeover activity
  • Review high-risk transactions and escalation cases
  • Identify emerging risk trends and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Support root cause analysis for operational and payment-related incidents

Shop Onboarding & Validation

  • Review onboarding requests requiring enhanced due diligence
  • Validate business ownership, banking information, and supporting documentation
  • Investigate onboarding discrepancies and ownership concerns
  • Perform ongoing monitoring and revalidation activities as required
  • Support first-payment and high-risk account reviews

Bank Account & Payment Controls

  • Review and validate bank account changes before payout activity resumes
  • Investigate unusual account maintenance activity
  • Monitor payment routing changes and payout destination mismatches
  • Assist in managing payout holds, suspensions, and risk-based restrictions

Fraud Prevention

  • Monitor fraud indicators across settlement workflows
  • Support development and refinement of fraud detection processes
  • Collaborate with payment providers on fraud-related escalations
  • Document and track fraud events and outcomes

Compliance & Operational Controls

  • Support compliance-related reviews and operational controls
  • Maintain risk documentation and audit records
  • Assist with regulatory, legal, and audit information requests
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and risk procedures
  • Participate in periodic control reviews and risk assessments

Reporting & Analysis

  • Produce risk-related reporting and operational metrics
  • Track trends in fraud activity, onboarding exceptions, and payment risks
  • Maintain case records and investigation documentation
  • Recommend process improvements based on observed risk patterns

Your experience

  • 3+ Years of experience in payment operations, fintech, banking, or marketplace environments
  • Experience investigating fraud, account takeover, or payment-related risks
  • Familiarity with ACH payments, money movement, and settlement processes
  • Experience supporting compliance or audit-related activities
  • Knowledge of onboarding verification, business validation, or KYB/KYC processes
