Personnel Security Specialist

This position is part of the Department of Energy's Office of the Chief Human Capital Office, Office of HR Operations and Client Services (OHROCS). As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will support the personnel security and vetting program by processing security clearance requests, suitability determinations and access requests. You will also review background investigations, derogatory or conflicting data, and maintain data accuracy in tracking programs such as DISS to ensure compliance.

As a Full Performance GS-12 Personnel Security Specialist, you will: Manage Personnel Security Files (PSFs), ensuring their accuracy and accountability, and prescreen clearance and Personal Identity Verification (PIV) requests for completeness. Evaluate investigative reports from various government agencies to identify derogatory or mitigating information and determine the need for further investigation in security credential and suitability adjudications. Conduct and assess their results of investigation and prepare necessary legal correspondence, such as letters of interrogatory and requests for additional information. Respond to inquiries from clearance holders, applicants, and other agency personnel via various communication channels. Analyze security policies, procedures, techniques, and processes, making recommendations for improvements based on best practices and analytical results. Identify high-priority cases and flags them for expedited action, providing written analysis and recommendations for resolving security concerns.
