Phlebotomist - Exuma
Certified Trained Phlebotomist
For this position, the phlebotomist, must be able to work independently and must have their own living arrangements in Exuma.
A Phlebotomist is responsible for providing efficient and friendly customer service while collecting blood samples. Phlebotomists' must also be knowledgable in basic laboratory and safety protocols.
Expected Duties:
Below is a quick list of the job duties that you should expect when working as a phlebotomy technician and form the phlebotomist job description in full:
- Be able to explain blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process
- Collect blood samples from patients (venipuncture)
- Practice proper patient identification
- Label vials with patient names and dates
- Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient
- Process any and all samples
- Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status
- Be friendly, courteous and sympathetic when it comes to working with patients
- Keep your phlebotomy cart or station well-organized at all times
- Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment
- Perform CLIA waived tests accurately and efficiently
- Perform ECG analysis'
- Help nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draw
Skills and Qualifications
- A valid in date Phlebotomy certification (AMT, ASCP) (optional)
- Ability to successfully draw blood from patients with minimal or no complications
- Empathy and interpersonal skills for working with patients
- Detail-oriented and committed to ensuring patient confidentiality
- Excellent motor skills and the ability to stand for long periods of time
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills
- Data entry and computer skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to walk 2 flights of stairs throughout the day
