Physical Metals Trader (Commodities Trading firm)

Our client, a commodities trading firm are seeking experienced Physical Metals Traders to join their base metals trading platform, with a focus on aluminium and copper value chain products including blister copper, copper concentrate, and electrolytic (refined) copper.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute physical trading of aluminium and copper-related products, including copper concentrate, blister copper, and electrolytic copper.
  • Originate and develop trading opportunities across producers, smelters, refiners, fabricators, and industrial end-users.
  • Structure and negotiate purchase/sale contracts, including pricing formulas, treatment/refining charges (TC/RC), logistics, and delivery terms.
  • Monitor global supply-demand fundamentals, smelter output, mine production, and arbitrage opportunities.
  • Manage physical positions, inventory, and exposure within approved risk limits.
  • Coordinate end-to-end trade execution with operations, logistics, shipping, finance, risk, and legal teams.
  • Develop and expand regional and global counterparty networks to support trading flows.
  • Track freight, warehousing, port operations, and regulatory requirements impacting metal flows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in physical metals trading, ideally within copper and/or aluminium value chains.
  • Strong understanding of copper supply chain (mining, smelting, refining) and aluminium production and trading flows.
  • Experience with physical trading structures, including TC/RC pricing, blends, and quality specifications.
  • Proven ability to develop commercial relationships and generate trading revenues.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and market assessment skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, global trading environment with tight risk controls.
