Physician Assistant-(Cardiology)

Provide care for patients in Cardiology with a primary focus on Veterans referred for arrhythmia-related, coronary and structural heart diseases and respective procedures (e.g. transcatheter aortic valve interventions, percutaneous coronary intervention, ablations, cardiac device placements). - Admit and follow patients referred/admitted for cardiovascular diseases and procedures in the CCU Observation Unit and MICU/SICU settings. - Determine Veteran eligibility for cardiac procedures, and consent for cardiovascular procedures. - Prepare patients for the procedure via appropriate testing, medical care, and consultations with other medical/surgical services. - Coordinate the in-hospital care plans and performance of procedures with various physicians and nursing services, vendors, and administration. - Provide in-hospital care, post-procedure care, counselling and coordinate follow-up appointments. - Work with administrators and regulatory bodies to assure cardiovascular procedure program quality. - Work closely with the Cardiology Consult Attending and Fellow to provide recommendations and perform procedures on patients admitted to the MICU or SICU who have had a cardiology consult placed. - Evaluate patients on the Medical and Surgical floors and in the Emergency Department who may need emergent cardiac procedures or transfer/admission to the ICU setting. - Appropriately stabilize patients in the CCU Observation Unit and prepare patients for transfer to the ICU, medical floor, other facility, or for discharge home as appropriate. - Appropriately hand off patient care.
