Who You Are:
The Piping Drafter reports to the Drafting Coordinator and is accountable for reviewing and interpreting designs and drawings, generating drawings, creating and maintaining bills of material, and fabrication control. A Pipefitting or Pipe Welding background is beneficial for this position.

What we’re looking for from you – If this describes you, we’d love to meet!

  • 2 - 3+ years fitting or welding experience
  • Desire to work in a 7:30 -4:30 office environment - Open to working evenings and weekends for overtime as projects require
  • Drafting experience (SpoolFab and/or Acorn Pipe)
  • A design and drafting diploma or equivalent education is an asset
  • Basic understanding of the fabrication process
  • Basic understanding of modular construction
  • Advanced understanding of piping materials
  • Advanced knowledge of piping assembly (field installation and yard assembly)
  • Able to interpret isometric drawings, Piping and Instrumentation diagrams, and Engineered Structural drawings
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel


Responsibilities:


Drafting

  • Review and interpret designs and drawings prepared by client engineers
  • Generate drawings for the construction of projects
  • Resolve drawing and design problems with project managers, shop supervisors, and client engineers
  • Develop and maintain project material trackers and identify material shortages and issues
  • Generate and update various spreadsheets for tracking, scheduling, and general use
  • Support estimating and managers to bid on upcoming projects for project design details
  • Provide technical expertise on design/drafting standards
  • Create drawing sets for construction using the SpoolFab program with accuracy and efficiency


Fabrication Control

  • Maintain the Pipe Fabrication Drawing Log
  • Create, update, and perform daily audits of project Quality Control Progress Reports (QCPRs)
  • Review and process fabrication drawings in accordance with Alstar’s documented procedure
  • Spot-check drawings and material lists for errors and omissions
