Role Summary
The Platform Engineer (Windows Server) is responsible for designing, building, managing, and maintaining enterprise Windows server platforms to ensure high availability, security, and performance. The role focuses on OS lifecycle management, automation, platform standardization, and operational stability across large-scale environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage OS certification, baseline configurations, and system hardening
- Test and certify security patches to ensure compliance and reduce vulnerabilities
- Maintain OS currency and configuration standards
- Support large-scale server environments across on prem and cloud platforms
- Plan and execute ESXi and vCenter patching/upgrades
- Develop automation scripts (PowerShell, Ansible or similar) to streamline platform deployment
- Support weekend changes / patching
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and technical documentation
Required Skills:
- Strong expertise in Windows Server (2016/2022/2025), including server build, OS lifecycle management
- Proficiency in automation and scripting (Ansible, Terraform or similar)
- Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware/Nutanix)
- Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security fundamentals
- Experience in Windows Clustering
- Experience in ESXi, vCenter, Clusters, vSAN, and HA/DRS
- Familiarity with ITIL processes (incident, problem, and change management)
Desired Skills:
- Experience in patching tool Lifecycle Manager (LCM) along with PowerCLI / APIs / Terraform for automation
- Experience in regulated environments (e.g., banking or financial services)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS)
- Experience supporting globally distributed environments
- Knowledge of security tools, vulnerability management, and compliance framework
