The Jefferson County General Services department is seeking a well-qualified Plumbing Supervisor. The Plumbing Supervisor oversees, plans, and coordinates plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair projects across assigned facilities. This role ensures compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and organizational standards while leading a team of licensed plumbers and apprentices. The supervisor manages project schedules, procurement of materials, and communication with stakeholders.The Plumbing Supervisor supports General Services' asset management program by evaluating the condition and performance of plumbing systems, identifying lifecycle replacement needs, and assisting with long-term maintenance and capital planning efforts.
In addition, the Plumbing Supervisor is responsible for identifying and prioritizing facility needs, developing solutions to operational challenges, and coordinating with General Services leadership, contractors, and other trades to support both day-to-day operations and long-term facility improvement efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Possession of a valid State of Alabama Master Plumber Certification.
Experience in a lead or supervisory role over skilled trades personnel, with responsibility for assigning work, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating with other departments or contractors.
Master-level experience in plumbing, including installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
TARGETED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection process.
Certified as a backflow tester.
Certified as Master Gas Fitter.
Certified as a Commercial Plumbing Inspector.
Experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional plumbing systems.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Supervises and assigns work to plumbing staff, ensuring quality workmanship and timely completion of projects.
Reviews building plans and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems.
Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and safety standards, including local and International Plumbing and Gas Codes and ordinances and Alabama Health Department Requirements.
Trains and mentors plumbers and apprentices; assess performance and ensure development.
Coordinates with project managers, contractors, and other trades to ensure seamless project execution.
Monitors inventory and requisition tools, equipment, and supplies as needed.
Maintains records of time, materials, and work progress.
Ensures that plumbing systems are tested for leaks and proper operation.
Responds to emergency plumbing issues and perform troubleshooting when necessary.
Enforces workplace safety procedures and practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job involves occasional moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, and climbing. May involve regular lifting of items or objects weighing up to 75 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both within employer-owned facilities such as workshop, warehouse, or station and in field locations such as external places of business, residence, and construction worksites. Work involves use of various hand tools such as hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. and electrical, gas, or air powered tools and equipment such as power saws, nail guns, drills, etc. May be exposed to weather conditions such as extreme hot or cold temperatures.EEO STATEMENT:
