Police Validation Specialist

General Description and Classification Standards

The GCIC Police Validation Specialist conducts required validations of records entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Georgia Criminal Justice Information Center (GCIC), and the Atlanta Police Department databases. This role enforces compliance with FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy, NCIC operating procedures, and state requirements for GCIC by verifying the accuracy, completeness, and validity of records maintained by the agency.

Supervision Received

Works under general supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Execute monthly validations of GCIC records following FBI CJIS and GCIC guidelines.
  • Review, verify, and validate warrants, missing persons, stolen vehicles, stolen guns, and other GCIC/NCIC entries for accuracy.
  • Contact originating officers and investigators to confirm the continued validity of records.
  • Conduct a review of reports, records, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Utilize Axon to facilitate validation documentation and support operational accountability.
  • Revise, update, clear, cancel, or expunge records as necessary based on validation findings.
  • Validate records using the secure Georgia CJIS validation portal GTA (Georgia Technology Authority).
  • Identify and correct discrepancies, errors, or missing information.
  • Document detailed records of validation activities and corrective actions for required audits by policy.
  • Complete all validation activities within the mandated timeframe.
  • Support internal and external audits as needed

  • Must successfully pass a criminal background investigation and maintain all required GCIC certifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in law enforcement records, criminal justice information systems, dispatch, warrants, or a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • NCIC/GCIC certification.
  • Experience conducting GCIC/NCIC validations.
  • Familiarity with Omnixx or similar GCIC software.
  • Knowledge of criminal justice records and reporting requirements.

Licensures and Certifications

None | have the ability to obtain GCIC and NCIC certifications within 90 days of employment.

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.

Lifting Requirements: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Work Schedule

This position is Monday through Friday 8-4/40 hours per week in an office-based environment.

  • Frequent use of computers and criminal justice information systems.
  • May require extended periods of reviewing electronic and paper records
