Postdoc Research Associate - Polymer Additive Manufacturing

The Advanced Manufacturing & Design Group is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct innovative research in the advanced manufacturing of functional polymeric materials. The primary responsibilities include developing novel materials and manufacturing solutions for a variety of challenges, such as extreme environments relevant to fusion, multi-material interfacial degradation, and manufacturing materials previously considered unmanufacturable. The position involves designing and executing original experiments, preparing reserach for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and collaborating with internal and external partners to integrate andvanced materials into practical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designs and conducts experiments in advanced and additive manufacturing of functional polymeric materials. This includes developing novel fabrication processes and utilizing techniques such as 3D-printing to create complex structures with tailored properties
  • Conducts comprehensive material analysis using various techniques (e.g., DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology, spectroscopy) to establish structure-property-processing relationships.
  • Documents experimental procedures and results, contributes to progress reports for funding agencies, and actively participates in group meetings and scientific discussions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and university/industry partners.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present at conferences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with material analysis techniques (DSC, TGA, DMA, rheology)
  • Knowledge of AI and ML applications in materials science is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
