Power Electronics Research Manager / Senior Manager
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be directly involved in early-stage research projects, working with academic institutions, suppliers, customers, and partners to deliver proof of concept designs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Continuously monitor market trends and industry research to define the research strategy and product roadmap.
• Drive the delivery of multiple projects, ensuring the engineering team has the technical direction and support required to deliver industry leading proof of concept designs within target timelines.
• Lead and mentor a group of engineers, supporting career development with goal setting and regular check-ins.
• Identify the skills needed in the team and help with recruitment of suitable engineers.
• Prioritise projects and allocate engineering resource.
• Work with a commitment to continuous improvement, transparency and technical expertise.
• Review designs and documentation, using technical experience to guide projects to success.
• Work as a hands-on individual contributor, researching key topics and delivering designs and documentation.
• Manage the delivery of collaboration projects with internal teams, suppliers, customers and research institutions.
Requirements:
• PhD or Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years experience in power electronics research, with at least 3 years in a leadership or team-lead role.
• Strong understanding of electronics hardware design, common power electronics architectures and control.
• Experience with architecture drawings, electronic schematics, component datasheets and PCB layout drawings.
• Knowledge of embedded software (C/C++) and coding practices is preferred.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience using oscilloscopes, electronic loads and power analysers.
• Familiarity with SiC/GaN devices, magnetics design, EMI, and thermal management.
• Expertise in using simulation tools (MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice, Python, etc).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership and communication skills.
• Experience planning projects, allocating engineering resource and project status reporting.
• Demonstrated passion for innovation and commitment to continuous learning.
