NE02Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to work with a diverse group of colleagues in providing academic learning support, in the form of tutoring, to SSS TRIO participants from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.MAJOR DUTIES
- Provide academic tutoring in pre-health sciences coursework, including anatomy, physiology, biology, and related foundational health science subjects
- Assist students in understanding course concepts, terminology, and processes in health science-related coursework
- Support students in developing effective study skills, including organization, time management, memorization strategies, and test preparation techniques
- Provide individual and small-group tutoring sessions to TRIO students
- Reinforce course content from lectures, readings, labs, and assignments to support student learning and comprehension
- Help students apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in pre-health science coursework
- Refer students to appropriate TRIO staff, academic support services, and campus resources as needed
- Communicate professionally with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners
- Maintain appropriate documentation of tutoring services in accordance with program requirements
- Participate in required trainings, orientations, and professional development activities as scheduled
- Support student success initiatives by encouraging the use of academic support resources, including Tutor.com
- Perform other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of pre-health sciences demonstrated by one or more of the following: completion of Anatomy & Physiology with lab (or equivalent) with a grade of “A” or “B”; associate’s degree or higher in a related field; relevant certification; or related tutoring/healthcare experience supported by faculty or employer recommendation
- Strong understanding of foundational biology and human anatomy and physiology concepts
- Ability to explain scientific concepts clearly and support student learning effectively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with diverse student populations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a structured academic support environment
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based applications
- Strong organizational skills, dependability, professionalism, and commitment to confidentiality
- Commitment to supporting student success in an academic support environment
