Preparator & Art Handler

The preparator at the Thorne is responsible for the safe handling, installation, and maintenance of
artworks within the gallery. This part-time role includes preparing exhibition spaces, installing and
de-installing artworks, patching and painting walls, lighting adjustments, and ensuring proper art
handling procedures are followed. The preparator works closely with curators and staff to execute
exhibitions to a high professional standard and oversees student employees.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Preparator, Art Handling, Fabrication 90%

  • Responsibilities include preparing exhibition spaces, installing and de-installing artworks, patching and painting walls, lighting adjustments, and ensuring proper art handling procedures are followed.

Managing Student Workers 10%

  • Manages student workers and their schedules and works in collaboration with the Zoulias Director on hiring.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree.

  • Prior gallery or museum experience in installing and handling artwork.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Attention to detail, basic carpentry skills, and the ability to lift and move artwork safely are essential. Position also requires managing student workers and their schedule.

Compensation Pay Range:

$25.00 hourly
