Principal Business Development & Partnerships – Insurance (ING NL)
As Principal, Business Development & Partnerships for Insurance, you are responsible for driving ING’s forward-looking insurance growth agenda in the Netherlands, in close alignment with the global insurance strategy.
In this role you operates across three pillars: Partnership Management, Business Development, and Growth Agenda. You work closely with the Tribe Lead NL, and the wider Insurance Management Team, operating in a cross-functional and international environment aligning with the global insurance community.
The role is designed with a external orientation and visible senior representation of ING towards partners and the market. Combined with shaping the internal growth agenda for strategic tickets and drive implementation.
Your key responsibilities
- Contribute to the Insurance Vision (NL and Global), including ideation, development, and validation of strategic options
- Identify value pools, strategic levers, and translate these into decision-ready proposals
- Define and drive the insurance growth agenda, including strategic priorities and portfolio direction
- Identify, size, and validate new business opportunities across products, segments, and markets
- Develop business cases for major growth initiatives (e.g. MGA expansion, new distribution models)
- Lead strategic partnership development, including identification, selection, and high-level negotiations
- Act as owner of strategic levers, driving senior stakeholder decision-making and investment prioritisation
- Prepare decision-ready materials on build/partner/acquire/exit scenarios
- Support and advise senior stakeholders (Tribe Lead NL, Global Head of Insurance) on opportunities and trade-offs
- Ensure handover to line teams once initiatives move into execution phase
We look for
- A strategic leader with a proven ability to shape and drive growth agendas
- Strong understanding of the insurance value chain and bancassurance models
- Experience in complex stakeholder environments (local + global governance)
- Ability to operate effectively between strategy, partnerships, and execution
- Strong influencing skills at senior and executive level
You will need to
- Translate strategy into concrete opportunities, business cases, and partnerships
- Build and manage a pipeline of growth initiatives (H1 / H2 / H3 innovation horizon context)
- Navigate governance structures and decision-making processes across ING NL and Global
- Represent ING externally in partnership discussions and negotiations
- Collaborate closely with Product (PAL), Finance, Corporate Development, and external stakeholders
- Operate across advisory, decision-preparatory, and execution support roles, with clear alignment on mandate
- Ensure clarity in roles, responsibilities and escalation paths (RACI-based working)
What you bring
- Fluent in English and Dutch
- Minimum of 8 years of management experience preferably in Insurance industry
- Strong expertise in the insurance industry is a must, including products, distribution, and regulation
- Proven track record in business development, partnerships, or strategy
- Experience with strategic deal-making and partner negotiations
- Ability to deliver decision-ready materials for senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills combined with execution focus
