Principal Engineer - Highways
Prepare technical analysis and design; including cost estimating, quantity calculations, etc
Prepare and review drawings and presentation materials;
Manage contract specifications and documentation;
Coordinate with discipline team members,
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s or post graduate degree in Civil Engineering with 10-15 years postgraduate experience with a consultancy or developer.
Experience with all aspects of highway / freeway design (e.g. alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, Contract specifications/ documents, Quantities, constructability);
Strong abilities to work with various software packages (i.e. Civil 3D, OpenRoads, Inroads a plus, Microstation, CAD, Microsoft Office);
Experience with technical writing, minute preparation, etc.
Ability to handle multiple projects;
Ability to estimate design level of effort, meet milestone schedule deliverables etc.
General understanding of traffic engineering principles;
Solid understanding of QA / QC as well as Environmental Health and Safety practices / requirements;
The successful candidate will be a dynamic, self-motivated individual who will assist senior engineers in project work, focused on delivery to the client and technical excellence. The ability to design deliverables against Canada Engineering standards for each stage of a project is preferred and training and guidance will be provided where necessary

Desirable Skills
Professional licencing within Canada or pursuing is an asset
Understanding of other road design requirements (e.g. drainage / hydraulic design, environmental design / mitigation measure, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and design);
Understanding of Provincial Ministry of Transportation, Canadian standards and design practices are an asset;
Familiarity with Canadian regulatory environment and experience with approval processes is an asset;
