Principal Engineer - Structures
WSP is seeking a Principal Engineer – Structures to play a key role in delivering complex multi-disciplinary project delivery, from concept stage through to detailed design. The role is responsible for owning and delivering significant structural design scopes, guiding engineering teams, and ensuring robust, coordinated, and high-quality design solutions. The Principal Engineer will lead on technical decision-making, manage interfaces across disciplines, and support the successful delivery of projects to programme, budget, and quality requirements.

Project and Technical Delivery
Lead the production and coordination of structural designs across all design stages
Take ownership of key packages within large multidisciplinary projects
Manage interfaces with architects, MEP, geotechnical, and other disciplines
Ensure delivery to programme, budget, and quality requirements
Provide technical input for complex design challenges and develop fit-for-purpose solutions
Lead and/or undertake design reviews and technical governance processes (peer reviews, QMS)
Lead development of high-quality design outputs (reports, drawings, specifications)
Act as a key coordination point for discipline interfaces within projects
Ensure compliance with applicable standards, codes, and safety in design requirements
Provide guidance and technical oversight to Engineers and Senior Engineers
Maintain strong understanding of metro structures design (subsurface and above ground)
Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate technical and programme risks within assigned scope
Support continuous improvement in design processes, coordination practices, and digital delivery approaches
People and Team Management
Support development of junior engineers through mentoring and technical reviews
Contribute to team capability building and knowledge sharing
Assist in resource planning and coordination with GCC teams
Contribute to the recruitment and selection process as required
Provide structured technical feedback and input to performance and development discussions.
Key Competencies / Skills
Strong experience working on metro schemes and station design, ideally including sub-surface metros
Proven track record in delivering structural designs across full life cycle, ensuring quality, accuracy, and coordination with wider project requirements.
Solid structural engineering fundamentals and problem-solving ability, with sound engineering judgement to resolve complex design challenges
Ability to take ownership of design scope, managing programme, quality, and technical delivery requirements
Effective leadership and mentoring capability, including reviewing outputs and supporting team development.
Strong communication skills to engage with teams, stakeholders, and clients, and present technical solutions clearly
Preferred Chartered status with a relevant globally recognised professional institution
Technical Experience (e.g. Areas, Software)
Extensive international experience in structural design, analysis, and coordination
Technical Focus on the delivery of the technical design reports, drawings and specifications to the required regulations and quality standards
Strong knowledge of design codes (Eurocodes / relevant standards)
Good knowledge of H&S legislation, Safe by Design principles and Railway safety
A strong fundamental understanding of all aspects of Metro Structures (subsurface and above ground concrete analysis and design, reinforcement design, material specification, etc)
Experience in multidisciplinary design coordination
Experienced in discipline and industry specific software
Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology.
