What you’ll do:
At WSP, we’re supporting some of Australia’s most significant mining projects across sustaining capital, brownfield upgrades, and major infrastructure. As our mining portfolio continues to grow, we’re looking to bring on a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and help shape the delivery of complex projects from our Newcastle team.
This is a senior leadership role within our Mining group, where you’ll play a key part in both technical delivery and team leadership. You’ll work across a range of projects spanning bulk materials handling, processing plants, and mining infrastructure; supporting clients across Australia.
You’ll act as a trusted advisor to clients, lead engineering outcomes, and mentor a team of engineers... helping to uplift capability and ensure high-quality, practical solutions.
Provide technical leadership across mechanical engineering design and delivery for mining projects
Lead and review the development of engineering solutions, calculations, and design documentation
Drive quality, safety, and compliance across all project deliverables
Engage directly with clients, building strong relationships and acting as a senior technical point of contact
Support project planning, resourcing, and delivery, working closely with multidisciplinary teams
Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, contributing to team growth and capability
Contribute to business development, including proposals, client engagement, and identifying opportunities
About you:
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
10-15 years + experience working in a design engineering capacity, ideally within a similar environment
Extensive experience in mechanical engineering within the mining or minerals processing sector
Proven ability to lead complex project delivery and provide high-level technical guidance
Strong experience in areas such as bulk materials handling, plant design, or fixed plant infrastructure
Demonstrated capability managing client relationships and stakeholder engagement
A collaborative approach, with a focus on mentoring and developing others
Chartered status (or working towards it) will be highly regarded
