Job Summary

This role supports a high-volume print production site serving the VA, producing books, flyers, business cards, and other printed materials for multiple departments. The position is responsible for operating digital print and finishing equipment, ensuring quality and timely delivery of print jobs.

The role reports to the Site Manager, Site Supervisor, or Assistant Site Manager, depending on site structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain digital print and finishing equipment in a high-volume production environment.
  • Perform bindery and finishing tasks, including:
    • Saddle stitching (Plockmatic)
    • Coil binding
    • Lamination
    • Cutting, folding, and booklet-making
  • Set up print jobs by reviewing job tickets, file specifications, and production requirements.
  • Ensure accurate job output including printing, collating, assembling, and packaging materials.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure finished products meet specifications and client expectations.
  • Monitor production timelines and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic equipment issues such as jams, misfeeds, and supply replenishment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on print and finishing equipment.
  • Manage workflow across multiple jobs and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies (paper, toner, binding materials, etc.) and notify leadership of replenishment needs.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and safe production workspace.
  • Support additional production needs such as job distribution, packaging, and internal delivery as required.

Required Qualifications / Skills

  • Prior experience in a print production or print shop environment (high-volume preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Plockmatic or similar finishing equipment
    • Saddle stitching, coil binding, and lamination
  • Strong understanding of print production workflows and finishing processes
  • Ability to manage multiple print jobs simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for production equipment
  • Ability to work efficiently under deadlines while maintaining accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in government, healthcare, or large enterprise print environments
  • Familiarity with digital file handling and print queue systems
  • Experience with high-volume production printers

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certifications)

Typically Required:

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires minimum of 3 years of related experience
  • Experience of three years in a roll-fed printing environment is preferred.
  • Technical aptitude to learn the set-up (including the software controls) and operation of complex printing equipment.

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to use, calibrate and troubleshoot office and complex technical equipment

  • Typically, an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level
  • Work assignments are diversified. Interpret, comprehend and apply complex material, data and instruction · prepare, provide and convey diversified information
  • Some physical effort required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that weigh up to 50 lbs. (e.g., papers, books, files and small parts, etc.).
  • Moderate dexterity · regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination.
