The Procurement Specialist II – Plastics, typically owns category management for the Plastic Category which may include Injection Molding, Blow Molding, and Rotational Molding. The role encompasses multiple site locations, divisions and groups. Ensures that the category strategy is aligned with the functional/business objectives and works closely with Division Procurement, Quality, Operations, R&D, and Business leaders to ensure category strategies are aligned cross functionally. Part of a Category team responsible for strategic sourcing activities and supplier management functions. Create robust sourcing strategies, negotiate agreements, lead strategic supplier relationships, and drive continuous improvement in the form of year over year savings.
Scale of Responsibilities
- Completes Plastics global category initiatives and manages projects to deliver key category performance indicators, including: savings, supplier rationalization, low-cost region sourcing, risk management, spend under agreement, joint innovation, supplier performance, etc
- Supports the execution of global sourcing strategies focused on identifying and contracting with preferred suppliers that meet key business needs and category management goals
- Analyzes cross-divisional spending and develops global strategic sourcing plans to reduce the total cost of ownership for all business units
- Demonstrates a measurable reduction in year over year total cost of ownership for the goods and services being sourced without compromising quality and service levels
Technical Responsibilities
- Monitors market intelligence and key trends, assesses impact and refines category plans to support business requirements
- Engages and supports division/site procurement teams and other key colleagues to qualify preferred suppliers & migrate spend from incumbent, non-preferred suppliers
- Analyzes category supplier performance data to find opportunities for supplier performance improvement and to establish continuous improvement goals
- Supports supplier business reviews with suppliers to ensure both parties meet obligations under the terms of agreement, including performance standards and continuous improvement goals
- Drives negotiations for global agreements aligned with category strategy
Leadership Responsibilities
- Under the direction of Sr Director, Director or Sr Manager, drives adoption of global sourcing strategies across the enterprise and ensures on going cross team collaboration
- Collaborates with cross-functional colleagues (quality, technical, operations, finance, etc.) to ensure all category sourcing activities are aligned to a common set of goals and priorities
Education, Experience, Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or technical field required
- Minimum of 2-3 years procurement/sourcing experience in mid to large multinational companies, with strong category/business engagement experience
- Business insight – knows how to assess market/business requirements dynamics and negotiate agreements that yield meaningful business value
- Experience working in highly regulated industries
- Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving significant year over year results
- Demonstrated consultative/collaborative style in performing sourcing activities
- Influences without authority to motivate and manage a cross-functional team in multiple geographies.
- Experience with Ai platforms like ChatGPT to drive procurement efficiency
- Experience in life sciences, medical device, or pharmaceutical industries is preferred
- Ability to travel 5 to 10%
