KARE 11 is seeking a Producer/Booker to help lead the daily execution of Breaking the News, an hour-long mid-afternoon newscast focused on in-depth conversation, context, and storytelling. This is not a traditional rundown-driven newscast. This role is for a producer who can identify meaningful stories, secure compelling guests, and shape smart, engaging conversations that help audiences better understand the world around them. The Producer/Booker will work closely with the host and newsroom leadership to build a show that is distinct in tone, strong in content, and valuable across both linear and streaming platforms.
Editorial Leadership
• Identify and develop daily show topics that go beyond headlines and focus on context, meaning, and impact
• Collaborate with the host to shape the editorial direction and voice of each show
• Ensure each episode delivers a clear audience payoff: learning something new, gaining perspective, or feeling more connected

Guest Booking & Relationship Building
• Book high-quality, relevant guests including:
o Newsmakers
o Subject matter experts
o Community voices
o Artists and cultural leaders
• Prioritize in-studio appearances whenever possible to elevate the show’s production and energy
• Build and maintain a strong network of go-to contributors and sources
• Pre-interview guests to ensure clarity, substance, and strong on-air presence
Show Production
• Produce a daily 2 p.m broadcast, including:
o Segment structure
o Interview flow
o Timing and pacing
• Write segments, edit video and sound, create supporting graphics (not heavy scripting)
• Work with control room, directors, and technical staff to execute a smooth, high-quality show
• Actively contribute to daily editorial planning meetings
• Coordinate with reporters, photographers, and editors
• Manage daily logistics including:
o Guest scheduling
o Studio timing
o Content deadlines

Multi-Platform Thinking
• Identify moments and segments that can be repurposed for streaming, social, and digital
• Work with digital teams to ensure the show has a second life beyond 2 p.m.
• Help maximize reach, engagement, and minutes watched across platforms
Preferred Qualifications
• 2-4 years of experience as a television news producer, booking producer, or similar role
• Strong editorial judgment and understanding of news, culture, and audience interests
• Proven experience booking guests and developing sources
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work under daily deadline pressure while maintaining high editorial standards
