Product Design PhD Internships
Responsibilities may include:
Design, engineering and validation activities for all hardware product lines
Help to create the next generation of the world's finest hardware devices
Conceive, design, and bring into production products that will re-define user experience
Work closely with many different multi-functional teams, including Industrial Design, Packaging, Safety, Hardware Engineering, EMC, Reliability and Marketing
Minimum Qualifications
Currently pursuing a PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field of study. At the end of the internship, you must return to school to continue your education or the internship must be the last requirement for you to graduate.
Preferred Qualifications
It’s helpful if you meet one or more of the following qualifications, but it isn’t a requirement:
Prior research publications, internship experience, relevant project experience, teaching assistance experience, and/or relevant work experience
Product design experience (preferably consumer electronics)
Experience working with component modules (LCD assemblies, batteries, camera modules, etc.) and their interconnect (FPC design and ACF bonding)
Strong knowledge of materials science fundamentals for plastic, adhesive, metal, glass, ceramic, composite, and coating materials
Ability to use statistical tools and techniques
Expertise in Finite element analysis theory and general mechanical engineering analysis
Ability in plastic, metal, composite, and glass/ceramic part design 3-D CAD skills
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing
Handheld, portable and/or hardware experience
Knowledge and understanding of the integration of wireless antenna (GSM, GPS, Wifi) into mechanical enclosures
Understanding of the design of audio subsystems (microphone, speaker, receiver)
Proficiency in Unigraphics or Pro-engineer
Ability to work in a team-based environment
Ability to be proactive and take initiative
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Flexibility and adaptability
Ability to work on multiple requests/tests at the same time
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
