Product Manager- Payments & Small Business

Target Salary Range: $74,000 - $84, 000.

Scope of Position

Reporting to the Director, Products and Relationships the Product Manager contributes to the development of product strategies, marketing campaigns and programs in pursuit of the corporate business objectives across several third-party relationships – including but not limited to, Credit Cards, Payment products and Small Business which includes Cannabis Banking Services.

This role is viewed as the subject matter expert and possesses an in-depth knowledge of credit card marketing specifically, as well as solid knowledge in Payment products and Small Business. This individual is accountable to deliver audience-specific product marketing materials in a variety of media. They must be able to develop strong, collaborative working relationships with key third party account personnel and internal stakeholders, including operations, credit risk, compliance, etc. and must be able to accomplish/influence work through these internal and external partners.

Major Responsibilities

Identify product development opportunities and concepts:

  • Champion the development and implementation of programs, initiatives, product enhancements and services that supports the corporate strategy for Credit Cards, Payments and Small Business and document these through assessments, business cases and proposals.
  • You will be the product lead to liaise with technology and various cross-functional areas during the implementation of new products and/or enhancements to grow the portfolio and ensure product relevance to existing members.
  • Analyze industry trends, competitive reviews and customer needs. Develop an understanding of key consumer and market segments.
  • Assist the Director, Products & Relationships in the development and implementation of product strategies and roadmaps consistent with the company vision and Partner contract parameters.
  • Maintain a healthy strategic relationship with all assigned partnerships and work collaboratively with the Partner(s) to find ways to capitalize on the partnerships and grow the business. Be the lead liaison with the Partner and internal Alterna teams to review standard reports, monitoring of SLAs and support of business and security audits.
  • Support all corporate projects and work streams that align to Payment products and services as well as small business products and services.

Develop and deliver new products and solutions:

  • Manage the concept phase and business case / proposal development for initiatives and act as a key stakeholder (subject matter expert) for the implementation of such initiatives.
  • Create and maintain a tactical plan that supports the product development roadmap.
  • Assess new product opportunities with internal stakeholders (Credit Risk, Adjudication, IT, ALCO, Marketing etc.)
  • Analyze and recommend partnership opportunities necessary to effectively support deposit and payment products. Assist the Director, Product in the partner/provider selection process. Development and execution of marketing and sales campaigns:
  • Support the planning, development and execution of sales campaigns.
  • Working with Marketing and business partners, develop strategies, plans and tactics to promote deposit and demand product growth across all channels (Retail branch, Digital Bank, Online, Contact Centre).

Business Planning and Measurement:

  • Evaluate the performance of the product portfolio including forecasting business volume, revenue and expenses.
  • Work with the Director to develop and implement the annual operating plan.
  • Assist in developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), business reports and product sales/profitability reports for both senior management and branch audiences.
  • Identify gaps and recommend actions to close gaps using product mix and business development tactics.

Product knowledge and operational effectiveness:

  • Lead development of customer facing communications, tools and resources: brochures, collateral, tools/calculators, web content etc.
  • Support the development of product knowledge/training strategies and support tools/resources for Retail and Back Office.
  • Provide product subject matter expertise for corporate projects and participate in working groups/project meetings.
  • Maintain effective product vendor relationships for outsourced products and services.
  • Product forms and agreements. Lead and manage content for customer facing credit forms and agreements. Obtain input and sign-off from cross-functional areas / stakeholder / content experts (legal and compliance) as required.
  • Act as a key support for the implementation of new products, product enhancements and initiatives. (e.g. provide support in the sales, marketing and delivery areas.)
  • Participate, as content expert, in the development of any customer experience design work, training material and communication material by providing guidance and expertise to other employees.

Education/Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Marketing
  • Minimum 5 years of specialized product marketing experience in the financial services industry, specifically credit cards, payments and Small Business.
  • Previous experience within the financial services industry
  • General understanding of payment solutions (i.e., Interac e-Transfer, Merchant Services, M2M, etc.)
  • High proficiency in MS Office (i.e., Excel, Outlook. Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
