Product Owner - CTV Monetization
About TEGNA
TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.
We're looking for a Product Owner to drive the monetization and growth strategy for our Connected TV and Streaming product portfolio. You'll own the roadmap for revenue-generating features and user acquisition initiatives - working at the intersection of Product Management, Ad Sales, and Marketing to maximize yield, grow our addressable audience, and build the in-app experiences that make both possible.
Who You Are
You sit at the intersection of product craft and business outcomes. You understand how ad-supported streaming products make money - and you know that the best monetization solutions do not compromise the viewing experience. You're fluent in the language of Ad Sales and Marketing, capable of translating stakeholder goals into product requirements that Engineering can deliver, and users will embrace. You bring commercial instincts and analytical rigor in equal measure: you can read a yield report, spot the constraint, and drive a cross-functional solution. You're a natural owner - you don't wait to be told what matters, and you don't ship features without knowing what success looks like. You’re organized, pragmatic, and focused on delivering real outcomes-not just features. Moreover, you are motivated and inspired by TEGNA’s mission to connect and serve local communities everywhere.
Scope of Responsibility
Lead high-functioning, full-stack product teams (product, design, engineering, QA) to deliver monetization and growth features that drive measurable revenue impact and audience growth across Connected TV platforms. Develop and maintain a robust, prioritized product backlog oriented around yield, acquisition conversion, and new revenue streams. Create epics and user stories aligned with product strategy and revenue targets. Partner with Ad Sales, Marketing, and Product Leadership to plan and execute roadmap goals through agile scrum ceremonies. Own and improve team processes to drive velocity, quality, and commercial impact. Document and communicate risks or impediments that hinder delivery or revenue outcomes.
Top Key Activities
- Backlog Ownership: Own and prioritize the product backlog, balancing ad product requirements, acquisition campaign needs, platform capabilities, and delivery timelines to ensure the team always works on the highest-revenue-impact features.
- Requirement Gathering & Refinement: Translate Ad Sales goals, Marketing campaign requirements, and revenue data into clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria. Maintain a healthy backlog with minimal carryover.
- Sprint Planning & Delivery: Work closely with designers, engineers, and QA during sprint cycles to ensure smooth delivery, clarity of scope, and fast decision-making on monetization and growth features.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as the primary product interface for Ad Sales and Marketing - translating their goals into buildable product requirements and keeping them informed of progress, tradeoffs, and delivery timelines.
- Revenue & Performance Analysis: Own the measurement framework for monetization features - tracking yield, fill rate, CPM performance, and acquisition conversion rates. Use data to prioritize and iterate.
- Strategy & Roadmap Definition: Contribute to product strategy and roadmapping in collaboration with Product Leadership, with a specific focus on AVOD, sponsorship formats, and paid acquisition efficiency.
- Experimentation: Partner with Marketing to design and interpret A/B tests on acquisition flows, registration prompts, and conversion funnels. Use LaunchDarkly and Amplitude to run experiments independently of app store release cycles.
- Continuous Improvement: Analyze ad product performance, acquisition funnel data, and yield metrics to identify and prioritize improvements with measurable revenue impact.
- Communications: Lead stakeholder communications with Ad Sales, Marketing, and Product Leadership - covering launch readiness, tradeoff decisions, dependencies, and performance results.
