Job Summary / Primary Function
The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing, developing, and overseeing manufacturing operations on the assigned shift to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives within a clean‑room environment. This role provides leadership to Production Leads and Operators, manages staffing and performance, drives continuous improvement, and serves as the primary decision maker for all shift‑level operational, quality, and personnel matters. The Supervisor ensures adherence to SOPs, contamination‑control practices, and production schedules while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Operations Leadership & Decision‑Making
- Develop the daily production plan based on schedule requirements, labor availability, equipment capacity, and material readiness.
- Make decisions related to workflow adjustments, resource allocation, priority changes, and operational troubleshooting.
- Direct and oversee Production Leads to ensure assignments, work execution, and operator deployment support productivity and throughput goals.
- Monitor real‑time performance (safety, quality, delivery, cost) and take corrective action when results deviate from expectations.
- Approve overtime, scheduling adjustments, and additional staffing needs for the shift.
- Coordinate with Planning, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to manage material flow, equipment issues, and schedule risks.
- Ensure effective shift‑to‑shift communication by leading structured handovers that address production status, WIP, quality concerns, staffing, and equipment conditions.
- Verify product quality by ensuring proper completion of batch records, in‑process verifications, clean‑room documentation, and adherence to specifications.
- Maintain departmental reporting and documentation related to production metrics, safety observations, downtime, and improvement activities.
2. Leadership, People Management & Staff Development
- Lead, coach, and develop Production Leads and Operators, building skillsets that support company growth and operational capability.
- Conduct performance evaluations, deliver coaching, initiate corrective action, and manage employee relations issues in alignment with HR and company policy.
- Interview, select, and hire new operators and leads in partnership with HR and the Production Manager.
- Monitor attendance, approve timekeeping, and manage overtime levels to support labor efficiency and budget adherence.
- Set clear expectations for individual and team performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Build a positive, safe, and engaged work culture that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
3. Safety & Compliance
- Serve as the final decision maker for any safety‑related work stoppages, ensuring conditions are safe before production resumes.
- Enforce all safety policies, including PPE use, machine guarding, ergonomic practices, incident reporting, and clean‑room requirements.
- Conduct safety walks, participate in safety investigations, and drive corrective actions for unsafe behaviors or conditions.
- Ensure compliance with clean‑room gowning protocols, contamination‑control practices, and documentation standards.
4. Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure team adherence to SOPs, work instructions, ISO requirements, and clean‑room standards.
- Approve rework decisions, quality‑related escalations, and corrective/preventive actions originating from the shift.
- Drive accountability for accurate documentation, including batch records, travelers, equipment logs, and quality checks.
- Partner with Quality to address deviations, non‑conformances, and customer‑related issues.
5. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and similar methodologies.
- Use data and KPI trends to identify opportunities for productivity improvements, waste reduction, and process optimization.
- Facilitate root‑cause investigations and ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Approve changes to workflow, standard work, cell layout, or production methods within the department.

The Production Supervisor has final authority for:
Operational Decisions
- Production scheduling adjustments
- Workflow changes and staffing allocations
- Approving overtime and additional shift labor
- Restarting operations following safety or quality stoppages
Quality & Compliance Decisions
- Acceptance of rework activities
- Approval of corrective/preventive action (CAPA) actions at the shift level
- Documentation escalations and quality‑related communication
People & Staffing Decisions
- Hiring, promotion, corrective action, and separation recommendations
- Performance evaluations and advancement decisions
- Training and certification approvals
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- 5+ years manufacturing experience (machining, clean‑room production, assembly, or quality).
- Previous supervisory experience required; clean‑room or semiconductor experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred; equivalent technical or supervisory experience accepted.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership capabilities with demonstrated decision‑making and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or structured process‑improvement tools.
- Ability to analyze data, interpret operational metrics, and use information for decision‑making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence across shifts and departments.
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain and report KPIs, create performance dashboards, and support presentation of operational data.
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
- Frequent work inside a temperature‑controlled clean‑room environment following strict gowning and contamination‑control procedures.
- Exposure to production equipment and repetitive motion tasks.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs as needed.
