Project Accountant
Job Summary:
The Project Accountant serves as a key financial and administrative partner to assigned construction project teams. This role supports projects from startup through closeout by helping maintain accurate job cost information, preparing billings, supporting forecasts, coordinating subcontractor documentation, and providing timely financial insight to Project Managers and the Finance team.

The Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to support strong project execution, timely billing, accurate reporting, and proactive financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Financial Management
- Maintain accurate job cost records and project financial information for assigned projects
- Monitor project budgets, committed costs, cost-to-complete estimates, and project cash position
- Review project transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper cost coding
- Prepare monthly project financial reports and support WIP reporting
- Assist Project Managers with budget updates, forecasting, and project profitability analysis
- Identify financial risks, cost overruns, billing issues, or margin concerns and communicate them proactively
- Support project teams with day-to-day financial questions and reporting needs
- Billing, Change Orders & Revenue Support
- Assist the Project Manager’s with monthly billings / pay applications
- Process, track, and maintain change order documentation
- Maintain retainage schedules and support project closeout billings
- Monitor billing status and assist with collections follow-up as needed
- Help ensure billings and supporting documentation comply with contract and owner requirements
- Subcontractor & Project Administration
- Assist with creation, issuance, and tracking of subcontracts and purchase orders
- Help subcontractors comply with Zwick requirements so payments can be processed timely
- Review subcontractor pay applications and support payment processing
- Track subcontract commitments, remaining balances, and required documentation
- Maintain subcontractor records, including contracts, certificates of insurance, W-9s, licenses, lien waivers, and other compliance documents
- Coordinate owner-required documentation such as payroll reports, insurance certificates, licenses, and other project-specific requirements
- Systems, Documentation & Process Support
- Maintain accurate project information in Procore, Sage300, and other company systems
- Support project setup, document control, and project closeout activities
- Assist Accounting with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and audit support as needed
- Attend project and team meetings as needed
- Recommend improvements to project accounting, billing, and administrative processes
- Visit construction job sites periodically to support project teams and stay connected to project activity
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- Demonstrates Zwick's core values of Passion, Integrity, and Teamwork
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent construction accounting or project administration experience will also be considered
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, project accounting, construction administration, or a related role preferred
- Experience in commercial construction or another project-based industry preferred
- Understanding of job cost accounting, project budgets, billing, and construction documentation preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with Procore and Sage300 preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with project teams
- Comfortable building relationships with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, and internal team members
- Willing and able to visit construction job sites periodically
