Project Design Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

Vertiv is seeking a skilled and motivated Project Design Engineer to join our team. The Project Design Engineer will be responsible for development and creation of new service opportunities, managing one-time projects, and designing innovative new kits and service hardware tools. This role will focus on the development of various engineering solutions, with a particular emphasis on creating functional products and tools that meet performance and quality standards. The Project Design Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of product designs and enhancements across a range of projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and development of new service kits and service hardware tools, ensuring they meet functional and performance requirements.
  • Manage and execute one-time project opportunities, from conceptualization to successful implementation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to define product specifications, components, and requirements for new kits and tooling.
  • Develop prototypes and conduct testing to validate new designs and ensure robustness, safety, and reliability.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transition from design to production for retro fits kits to new tools and product kits.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership throughout the development process, resolving any design or production issues that may arise.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for designs, including specifications, reports, and test results.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency in the design and production of service tooling and kits.
  • Develop and create product design improvement for the products that Vertiv services to prolong product life.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to industry standards, company guidelines, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source materials and components required for new designs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, or a related field) required. Master’s degree preferred
  • Certification in Change Management (e.g., APMG Change Management or similar) is a plus.
  • Electrical design or programming experience is a plus.
  • Experience in the electronics, power systems, thermal/HVAC, or related industries.
  • Knowledge of risk management and failure analysis techniques, such as FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis).
  • Green Belt or Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in project engineering, product development, or a related field.
  • Experience in the design and development of service tooling, kits, or similar products.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other engineering design tools.
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for product design and development is a plus.
