Project Manager

Torque IP, a BGIS company, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the planning and delivery of commercial construction projects across Aotearoa, with a particular focus on school property projects. As our School-Led Projects portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for a capable Project Manager to join our Christchurch team. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, you will work closely with internal teams, subcontractors, and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and seamlessly.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, client-focused, solutions-driven, and confident in delivering multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver education-sector construction projects from scoping through to handover, ensuring alignment with Ministry of Education standards.
  • Lead project planning activities, including scope definition, project briefs, budgets, procurement, programming, and delivery methodology.
  • Manage project risks, costs, variations, schedules, reporting obligations, and close-out requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee Health & Safety requirements across all project stages, ensuring site practices comply with legislative, BGIS, client, and project-specific standards.
  • Engage, coordinate, and manage subcontractors, consultants, external service providers, and delivery partners to support successful project outcomes.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with school leadership teams, Boards of Trustees, clients, designers, consultants, council authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate stakeholder communications, meetings, decisions, and project reporting.
  • Ensure quality assurance, audit, documentation, and handover processes are completed to the required standard and meet project specifications.

Education, Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in building, construction, or property services.
  • Strong knowledge of project management methodology.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety procedures and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and contractor performance.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Ministry of Education property projects
  • Knowledge of building methods, materials, and interpretation of architectural drawings.
  • Project Management qualification.
  • Experience delivering projects in operational or critical environments.
  • Strong administration, documentation, and technical reporting capability.

Workplace Flexibility

This role is based on-site in Christchurch. After an initial onboarding period, there may be opportunities for hybrid working arrangements based on business needs and performance.
