Public Relations Specialist
Leading Japanese law firm Nishimura & Asahi is seeking an experienced Public Relations professional to join the Public Relations Division, with a focus on international media relations and external communications. The role involves close collaboration with partners, lawyers, and internal stakeholders to support the firm’s visibility and reputation in global markets.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, professional services environment, with strong English communication and drafting skills, and a solid understanding of protocols surrounding corporate communications and engagement with media outlets.
Responsibilities
International Media Relations
Build and maintain relationships with international legal and business media
Support management of inbound and outbound media enquiries, including interview coordination and background briefings
Draft, edit, and coordinate English-language press materials, including press releases, pitches, and talking points
PR Strategy and Branding
Support the planning and execution of international PR initiatives aligned with the firm’s business development priorities
Work with partners and practice groups to promote major deals, firm announcements, rankings, and thought leadership
Monitor international media coverage and prepare internal summaries and reports
Act as a key English-language PR contact point for lawyers and internal teams
Work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure consistency of messaging and branding across markets
Events, Seminars & Campaigns
Coordinate support for seminars, webinars, conferences, and international roadshows, including liaising with speakers and external partner
Support integrated campaigns in collaboration with relevant teams and external partners
Social Media & Digital Communications
Support management of the firm’s LinkedIn account, working closely with global stakeholders within the network.
Create and manage content aligned with firm branding, collaborate with external vendors as needed, and track performance metrics to provide insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
English Writing & Editorial Review
Review and edit internal and external communications in English in accordance with the firm’s house style.
Review of materials prior to publication, including press releases, news articles, deal announcements, and internal communications.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, law, or a related field.
Native English and proficient in Japanese, both written and spoken.
5+ years of relevant experience in public relations, corporate communications, marketing, or a related role, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
Proven ability to draft, edit, and review high-quality written materials in English, including press releases, marketing content, and internal communications.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders (including lawyers and management) and external partners.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive or confidential information.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using digital tools for communications, events, and social media management.
Comfortable working in an Japanese-speaking and international environment and collaborating with overseas offices and colleagues.
