Quality Specialist
What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: Generally responsible for performing quality assurance/quality control representation for various commercial and/or industrial construction projects. Work will be performed under minimal supervision.
Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Providing day-to-day inspection activities including problem resolution, assuring project specification compliance during field construction and providing inspection oversight for mechanical completion turn-over.
Monitoring Contractor’s performance and workmanship, witnessing and approving tests on the Owner’s behalf and reviewing and auditing Contractor’s key documentation.
Reviewing QA/QC procedures written by others to confirm that appropriate technical assurance requirements are covered. Assuring that approved construction practices/methods are implemented within their Discipline.
Understanding all HS&E procedures established for the project and meeting all expectations and requirements.
Supporting the Discipline Team in providing HS&E leadership and champion goals in this area for the Discipline Team and the entire Project Team.
Developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the equipment, design, specifications, and installation details within Disciplines.
Reviewing Contractor QA/QC personnel resumes and qualifications.
Participating in Contractor construction activity kick-off meetings.
Functioning as a focal point between the field construction and Hargrove Construction Manager and/or Hargrove QA/QC Manager during construction to assure alignment with original design specifications, etc.
Auditing Contractor and Subcontractor QA/QC programs and record keeping assuring items specific to the Discipline are adequately addressed. Follow-up with field checks as appropriate.
Assisting Material Control/Warehousing in coordinating equipment and material receipt inspections with Contractor and Owner representatives. This includes parts identification, damage, required quantities, etc.
Auditing Contractor’s material traceability programs.
Performing field surveillance and/or audits of Contractor Testing apparatus/equipment.
Performing field surveillance and/or audits of Discipline equipment.
Assuring appropriate field preservation steps are taken on Discipline equipment.
Supporting implementation of vendor support activities for installation, commissioning, and start-up of Discipline equipment.
Participating in system walk-downs and punch-out as appropriate. Participating in system turnover/acceptance.
Assisting Hargrove Construction Manager with assuring execution of complex equipment commission procedures as requested. This may include technical support for equipment testing, problem resolution, run-in adjustments, etc.
Assisting Operations in training of personnel, when requested.
Submitting weekly/monthly QA/QC activity reports to the Hargrove QA and Construction Managers and Owner as required.
Ideal Background
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Certification: Certification from AWS, API, ASNT, NACE, ACI, CEI is preferred.
Experience: Requires 10 or more years of relevant experience in quality assurance/quality control administration, inspection and representation within Industrial Construction environments.
Experience in and thorough knowledge of construction work methods and practices and codes and standards.
Proven ability to monitor industrial project contractor performance and to verify that specifications and quality standards are met.
Proven ability to analyze quality assurance data and make recommendations for improvements.
Proven ability to audit and compile quality records.
Proven ability to interface directly with clients.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Excellent interpersonal skills and innovative thinking style.
Excellent presentation skills.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Knowledge and experience with turnover tracking tools is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry in excess of 25 lbs.
Ability to climb ladders or perform duties utilizing a safety harness while working at elevated heights.
Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs while carrying equipment.
Ability to perform work outdoors or in process units in hot or cold climates.
Ability to perform duties within confined spaces for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment such as a fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, ear plugs and hard hat.
