Recreation Specialist - Physical Wellness (62167)
The Community Connections program at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is a peer-based program that supports clients in their recovery process. Programming is based in SAMSHA's 8 dimensions of wellness. In-person and virtual activities are offered to clients both on-site and off-site. We are seeking a Recreation Specialist - Physical Wellness who will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop and support clients diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness to support mental health recovery and wellness through mindfulness and engagement in physical health activities. The recreation specialist will support mindfulness practices through development of physical skills while encouraging clients to try new experiences and develop a perception of accomplishment.
Schedule. This is a fully On-site position working Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week, 8 hours/day.
Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.

About you.
The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills with the comprehension of intercultural communications. They will have the ability to work with community partners, with independence and creativity, while also demonstrating the ability to problem-solve and be flexible. They will also be proficient using Microsoft Office programs and internet-based computer programs. This candidate will have specialized knowledge of education and support services for assisting clients with engaging in recreational activities.
Essential Functions:
- Motivate clients to participate and stay active for a healthy lifestyle while also maintaining a positive and supportive environment.
- Help clients learn life skills to improve their mental and physical health.
- Manage schedule of exercise classes for clients, including gym/court times.
- Plan and prepare activities with adequate materials and equipment.
- Teach clients proper exercise protocol, gym equipment safety procedures, and good sportsmanship practices as vocational skills.
- Use a variety of assessment methods to track client progress and identify areas of improvement.
- Plan and implement gym/court associated activities.
- Provide individualized coaching of skills in small and medium sized groups.
- Act as a resource guide for clients to access.
- Help clients develop appropriate social skills.
- Ensure clients engage. Encourage clients to try new experiences.
- Encourage clients to become involved in the community by learning valuable and marketable skills.
- Promote a positive environment to help clients feel safe to experience new situations.
- Provide specialized knowledge of education and support services for assisting clients to engage in recreation activities.
- Interact with other agencies to create a pathway for client access to community and cultural events.
- Staff member will complete needed care coordination tasks for their assigned role.
