- Provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality outcomes. Maintains clinical documentation, adheres to safety protocols, and supports patient education and advocacy.
- Perform systematic, comprehensive, and accurate assessments. Assess potential discharge needs during the initial assessment
- process. Monitor effects of medications and treatments and report adverse effects in a timely manner. Assess patient for pain level. Provide appropriate intervention, reassessment, and documentation. Systematically monitor the maintenance of protocols, standards, and plans of care. Plans and provides individualized patient education.
- Demonstrate competent clinical skills. Perform nursing-related skills and activities competently. Analyze situations critically. Maintain complete and
- accurate documentation. Identify and document realistic long and short-term goals. Complete interdisciplinary plan of care record. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds. Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and revise the plan of care as needed. Recognize and evaluate patient and family responses to therapies and nursing interventions.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Complete hand-off communication and give complete reports to other caregivers.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and time management skills necessary for effective patient care. Assume responsibility and accountability for safe nursing
- care of assigned patients. Delegate responsibilities appropriately to others. Conducts regular patient rounds to ensure safety and enhance patient experience. Actively participates in daily interdisciplinary huddles to support coordinated care. Utilizes approved clinical communication tools (e.g., Vocera) in accordance with organizational standards.
- Adhere to OSHA, Joint Commission, Standards of Nursing Practice supported by NJ BON, professional association, ANA Code of Ethics & Scope of Standards and Practice NJ Board of Health, and hospital standards. Use two patient identifiers and check allergies before medication administration. Follow hand washing protocols and maintain isolation precautions. Properly use and store equipment, checking expiration dates. Demonstrates leadership and function as a resource/mentor. Actively participates in Shared Governance.
- Assesses learning needs, plans and delivers education, and supports staff development through orientation, continuing education, and competency validation. Collaborates with leadership to implement innovative programs, evaluate effectiveness, and ensure regulatory compliance. Serves as a mentor, resource, and facilitator for clinical excellence and professional growth.
- Determines learning needs of nursing team. Maintains ongoing needs assessment. Evaluates responses to educational programs. Identifies priority topics related to quality assessment and improvement issues. Collaborates with nursing management and team members. Identifies educational needs re: new products, policies, procedures and/or issues related to professional associations and regulatory agencies.
- Provides ongoing team member development/continuing education. Collaborates with nursing management and preceptors to establish ongoing developmental goals. Assists with problem solving and development of action plans to meet developmental objectives. Facilitates attainment of objectives by planning and implementing continuing education programs and on-unit conferences.
- Works collaboratively with managers and team members in planning and implementing innovative programs/systems. Provides competency-based tools to support changed performance expectations. Structures formats and processes to support program implementation. Consults on projects as requested and complete in a timely fashion.
- Assists in planning and implementing team member orientation. Identifies, validates and documents basic competencies of newly hired RNs including electronic documentation in the specialized area. Provides orientation goals and strategies to orientee and preceptor. Acts as a resource in providing theory and supervised practice in response to selected developmental needs. Acts as a resource/facilitator to the orientee, preceptor, and/or manager as needed.
- Provides basic orientation and skills validation of newly hired Patient Care Technicians and Unit Acts as a resource/facilitator re: resolution of performance problems.
- Evaluates program/presentation effectiveness using relevant methods. Plans program evaluation based on program objectives. Implements evaluative process and analyzes findings. Plans and implements relevant follow-up activities.
- Maintains records according to established policies. Develops/approves program objectives, content and evaluation methods for nursing education programs. Verifies completion of self-learning activities. Provides data for computerized records.
- Participates in committees and task forces. Researches, recommends, implements and evaluates policies and standards. Acts as a resource to hospital committees by providing input regarding identified problems and practice issues, developmental and problem-solving strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
- Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing Preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of Acute Care experience in a hospital setting as a Registered Nurse.
- Certification in area of specialty preferred.
- BLS Required.
