Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) delivers high-quality emergency nursing care to patients of all ages in a fast-paced hospital emergency department. Working collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the ED RN rapidly assesses, prioritizes, stabilizes, and treats patients while ensuring safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
Essential Functions
As an ED RN at Boone Memorial Health, you will:
- Perform rapid patient assessments, obtain detailed medical histories, and develop individualized plans of care.
- Perform triage by evaluating both physical and psychosocial patient needs.
- Provide emergency nursing care while prioritizing multiple patients based on acuity.
- Monitor patient conditions and initiate appropriate nursing interventions.
- Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and emergency treatments as prescribed.
- Assist physicians during examinations, procedures, and emergency interventions.
- Clean, dress, and manage wounds while providing ongoing patient care.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Accurately document patient assessments, treatments, medications, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Report suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with hospital policy and legal requirements.
- Maintain emergency equipment, supplies, and a clean, organized treatment environment.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to provide exceptional patient care.
- Participate in continuing education, required training, and departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current West Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Emergency Department nursing experience.
- Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.

Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, squat, twist, push, pull, and lift.
- Safely lift up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
- Perform repetitive hand and arm movements while providing direct patient care.
