Registered Pharmacy Technician I Trainee

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs various duties that provide dispensing support to the Pharmacists under their direct supervision.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. High school education or equivalent required.

Experience:

  1. No previous experience required, but prior experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Proficiency in Mathematics.

  2. Proficient technology skills.

  3. Strong attention to detail.

  4. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Registration with the Pennsylvania Pharmacy Board as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Receives direct supervision from the Pharmacy Manager, Supervisors, and Staff Pharmacists. Receives guidance from Pharmacy Technician IV.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Maintain security and proper storage of sterile products and reconstituted injectables.

  2. Deliver controlled substances to nursing stations and Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM’s) after Pharmacist dispensing, completes all required electronic documentation, and returns ADM receipts to the Pharmacist.

  3. Deliver medications to patient care units, patient rooms, and designed storage areas, ensuring security and accuracy.

  4. Accurately process provider orders and maintain hard-copy downtime records.

  5. Manage incoming telephone calls, collect relevant information, and triage calls appropriately.

  6. Tend to pharmacy doors and service windows.

  7. Process unit-dosing drug supplies and accurately fill patient medications per system refill list.

  8. Reconcile patient accounts by adjusting returned doses as needed.

  9. Stock and replenish medications in all patient units and ADMS as required.

  10. Perform billing, charging, and crediting functions in compliance with corporate guidelines.

  11. Conduct monthly inventory checks for assigned storage locations, monitoring expiration dates, storage conditions, and quantities.

  12. Operate and maintain solid and liquid unit-dose repackaging systems.

  13. Perform daily Code Cart quality control checks for assigned area(s).

  14. Maintain pharmacy records not captured by EHR.

  15. Facilitate efficient product transportation by operating the pneumatic tube system.

Provide excellent customer service to health system staff, patients, and visitors.

  1. Complies with the safety program in accordance with health system policies:

    1. Attends assigned safety training sessions.

    2. Complies with health system safety policies and encourages persons under his/her direction to do the same.

    3. Documents attendance at required training on Staff Development/Education and Training Record.

  2. A Pharmacy Technician I - Trainee may not perform the following duties:

    1. Accept or transcribe an oral order or telephone prescription.

    2. Enter or be in a pharmacy if a pharmacist is not on duty.

    3. Perform any act within the practice of pharmacy that involves discretion or independent professional judgment.

    4. Perform a duty until trained and the duty has been specified in a written protocol
