Wage Range: $27.76 - $34.70 per hour
Hours: 24 Hours per Week. 0730 am-0730 pm, Monday to Saturday, including Stat Holidays
Shifts: Days
Status: Permanent Part-Time

Duties:
The Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for initiation, monitoring and discontinuation of hemodialysis treatments of hemodialysis patients. As a member of the inter-professional team providing person-centred care, the RPN will complete patient assessments, health teaching & family counselling, documentation, set-up/monitoring & trouble shooting of hemodialysis machines and respond to rapid changes in the patient’s hemodynamic status within the scope of practice for a hemodialysis RPN in partnership with the RNs/ Interprofessional team. The RPN will play an active role in the unit on quality improvement/research project teams.
- Completion of college or other approved Registered Practical Nursing Program required.
- Current certificate of registration in good standing from the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification required.
- Completion of a medication course for RPNs required
- Nephrology 1 and 2 courses completed from a recognized Nephrology Nursing Certificate Program (Successful applicants who had not previously completed the Nephrology course will be expected to enroll within one year and complete within three years)
- Health Assessment / Physical Assessment course an asset
- Minimum 5 years medical/surgical acute care nursing experience required
- Minimum of 3 years of hemodialysis experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Experience with medication administration (by multiple routes) required
- Practicum experience (ranging from 62.5 to 485 hours) required.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong team building and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent patient assessment skills
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all
- Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
