Release and Build Specialist [Unity]
About the role
The Release and Build Specialist develops and maintains automated tools and pipelines that support the version creation and release process for Unity-based projects. This role owns build toolchains and CI/CD pipelines, administers build environments and build farms, and ensures stable, efficient build and release workflows.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, the role supports daily build operations, troubleshoots build and packaging issues, and contributes to continuous improvement of build, release, and versioning processes.
What you will do
- Maintain build environments/servers and a large build farm; provide operational support (user support and initial issue triage) for build/version systems.
- Design, develop, and maintain build toolchains, automation scripts, CI/CD pipelines, and release workflows; monitor/administer and continuously improve related pipelines and version creation systems.
- Implement and maintain Unity pipelines (asset import, automated builds, and package generation), including Unity Hybrid hot-update toolchains (resource updates, versioning, automated publishing).
- Troubleshoot build/release issues, including package analysis and resolving packaging/signing problems (IPA/APK).
- Manage project data permissions and close-out/archival (e.g., ClosingKit); document and maintain standards for build, versioning, deployment, and automation processes.
- (Nice to have) Support ML training/inference pipelines and related model deployment when applicable; develop additional tools/scripts to automate workflows and improve team efficiency.
What You will Bring
- Experienced on a similar role :build/release/deployment/CI/CD engineering.
- Proficiency in C# or Python (both a plus); ability to write clean, maintainable automation scripts.
- Solid understanding of Unity build workflows: asset import, automated packaging, build scripts.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (e.g., Jenkins, TeamCity, QuickBuild).
- Familiarity with iOS release processes (certificates, provisioning profiles, TestFlight, App Store submission).
- Basic knowledge of IPA/APK structures and package troubleshooting.
- Experience with version control (e.g., Perforce, Git, SVN/CVS a plus).
- Strong communication, documentation habits, engineering discipline, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to leverage AI tools to improve workflow efficiency and problem-solving.
