Replacement Driver, HDML (50468)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The RiseBoro of Home Delivered Meals (HDML)/Meals-on-Wheels program provides thousands of meals daily to various communities in Brooklyn, NY. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director and/or Director, the Replacement Driver of HDML is responsible for the daily delivery of meals to homebound clients. Additionally, the Replacement Driver is required to maintain accurate delivery records and assist with assigned program areas as needed. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Perform duties as required by the supervisor of the site
  • Assist with Kitchen Aide Responsibilities
  • Assist with custodial duties at senior centers in case of program emergency
  • Pick up and deliver congregate meals to other program sites if needed
  • When necessary pick up/ drop off interoffice mail
  • Packing of home-delivered meals
  • Deliver packed food to homebound clients and food satellites including holiday and or emergency food packages
  • Report to coordinator any difficulty with meals delivery or change in client’s status as well as inability to deliver
  • Maintain accurate daily log of meals delivered and contributions collected
  • Deliver program material and information to homebound clients
  • Move, unpack and store food and supplies as required
  • Assist in scheduling meal delivery to minimize time and distance between delivery points

If a licensed driver:

  • When necessary pick up/ drop off senior service transportation clients to designated senior center
  • Drive safely at all times
  • Required to report any accidents or incidents to supervisor and police
  • Be courteous to riders
  • Keep vehicle clean and in good operating condition
  • Inspect vehicle daily and report any operational or structural defects immediately
  • Keep daily gasoline and mileage records
  • Keep vehicle report log recording all maintenance and repairs
  • Pick up and return vehicle to garage or to parking place daily

COMPETENCIES

  • Driver’s license required
  • Ability to walk long distances and climb stairs
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Some knowledge of the area and/or ability to read maps and follow directions
  • Some knowledge of and a genuine concern for the physical, mental and emotional needs of older persons
  • Able to lift heavy objects
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • If performing replacement driving must have a valid and clean New York State Driver’s License-Class D. Previous experience encouraged.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma preferred but not required
