The Opportunity:

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Fellow in IC Design and Testing for AI Hardware Accelerators. This Research Fellow position will be affiliated with the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies focussing on Memristive Technologies for Lifelong Learning Embedded AI Hardware within the at the University of Edinburgh. This role is UE08 and is available on a fixed-term basis for up to 36 months.

The appointee will support the delivery of the vision of this 10-year programme that innovates state-or-art Embedded AI Hardware solutions for Lifelong Learning applications.

This post will involve the development (design, taping-out and testing) of integrated circuits for a wide range of embedded AI hardware applications such as AI accelerators, autonomous sensors, biomedical implants, robotic systems, adiabatic computing, and hardware security modules, with a particular focus on emerging memory technologies and architectures. It will also involve validating and demonstrating the performance of the developed ICs in solving real-world problems.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD in Electronics, with a focus on analogue, digital and/or mixed-signal IC Design and Testing, or a closely related area or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven track record of research or industrial experience in analogue, digital and/or mixed-signal IC design.
  • Experience in delivering research project results in an IC Design and Testing and/or AI context; i.e. a record of peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in a relevant area.
  • Capable of working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines or technical background.
  • Capable of working independently, exercising a high degree of initiative and demonstrating a pro-active and flexible approach to work.
