Resident Medical Officer

Role Overview


The Bayview Hospital is seeking a qualified medical practitioner who is registered with the Medical Council of Barbados to fill the full-time position of Resident Medical Officer (RMO). The successful candidate will be expected to continuously monitor and evaluate in hospital patients assisting with the management of surgical/medical patients and providing support to consultant physicians.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Make entries in the patient’s notes (electronic) as appropriate following ward rounds or any other patient examinations, communication or procedures.
  • Facilitate in-house training sessions to both medical and non-medical staff members.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide care and manage postoperative patients i.e dressing application, patient transfer and monitoring for immediate complications
  • Assist physicians on the ward with review of patient, site IV access and provide care under the guidance of the Consulting Surgeon/ Specialist Physician.
  • Admit patients who are transferred into the ICU
  • Take an active role in monitoring patients and respond to clinical parameters (e.g. blood pressure, respiratory rate, heart rate, oxygen saturations and pain)
  • Clearly document all examinations and examination findings.
  • Administer injections for radiological investigations when required.
  • Undertake emergency procedures as required (including resuscitation).
  • Attend meetings to discuss issues, incidents and accidents with the Risk Management Officer/ Nurse Manager
  • Countersign any drug instructions given by consultants over the telephone and satisfy prescribing requirements throughout the hospital.
  • Communicate as often as necessary with the hospital’s Pharmacist in relation to the patient’s prescription and to adhere to the Formulary.
  • Work with the ICU Consultant in managing patients in ICU.


Qualifications:

  • ACLS & BLS qualifications
  • PEARS (Optional)
  • NALS (Optional)
  • PALS (Optional but preferred)



Experience:

  • Medical Doctor with minimum of 3 years post graduation
  • ICU and/or Emergency care experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent Communication skills; oral and written
  • Ability to multi-task and perform well in stressful situations
