Resource Family Recruiter, Foster Care and Adoption
At Wayfinder Family Services, we understand the unique challenges facing some of our state’s most vulnerable children, youth and adults. Those with disabilities, those without a home of their own, those who have been abused and many, many more. We answer the call for them. We believe in the amazing potential in, and for, each and every one of them. And, together, we find a way to turn that potential into reality.
Program and Role Summary
Wayfinder’s Foster Care and Adoption programs match children and youth who have been displaced from their homes due to abuse or neglect with families that can provide safe, caring homes. Wayfinder recruits, trains and certifies resource (foster) families, some of whom ultimately adopt the children they foster. We emphasize a child achieving permanency, which can be reunification with birth parents, living with relatives, adoption or guardianship.
The primary focus of the Resource Family Recruiter is to recruit prospective resource families, particularly those interested in children and youth with physical, mental, emotional, and developmental or learning disabilities. This position is an integral part of a dynamic team, focused on finding loving and permanent homes for children and youth.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, promote, and lead recruitment events on a routine basis to develop interest in the program among prospective resource families.
- Speak to community groups, organizations, and churches to generate interest and promote foster care, ISFC, and adoption. Work strategically to target adults who are familiar with children who have special challenges or are in “helping professions.” This includes teachers, social workers, nurses, other medical professionals and parents who have a child with special health care needs.
- Speak with prospective resource families regarding program requirements, interest in providing foster care and answer any questions.
- Invite prospective resource families to attend the agency orientation to learn more about the program and services.
- Facilitate Orientation sessions virtually or in person as needed.
- Conduct periodic and ongoing training for Resource Families including relative families based on needs and/or to remain in compliance with ongoing training requirements.
- Document as needed in the electronic files for newly approved homes by entering and/or uploading required information in Famcare (the agency database).
- Other duties as outlined in the position description.
