Position Overview:

The Respite Specialist provides short-term, supportive care to individuals (children and/or adults) with developmental disabilities or mental health needs, allowing their primary caregivers time to rest, attend to personal matters, or handle emergencies. This role plays a critical part in reducing caregiver stress and enhancing the overall well-being of the families we serve.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, attentive, and compassionate care to individuals in their home or community-based settings
  • Support clients with daily activities, including meals, hygiene, mobility, and recreational engagement
  • Follow care plans and safety protocols as directed
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services provided
  • Communicate effectively with caregivers, team members, and supervisors
  • Respond appropriately to the emotional and behavioral needs of the individual
  • Participate in required training and supervision


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if travel is required)
  • Ability to pass background checks and required training
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills


Preferred Skills:

  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and client rights
  • Training in behavioral interventions or de-escalation techniques (preferred but not required)
