Position Overview:
The Respite Specialist provides short-term, supportive care to individuals (children and/or adults) with developmental disabilities or mental health needs, allowing their primary caregivers time to rest, attend to personal matters, or handle emergencies. This role plays a critical part in reducing caregiver stress and enhancing the overall well-being of the families we serve.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide safe, attentive, and compassionate care to individuals in their home or community-based settings
- Support clients with daily activities, including meals, hygiene, mobility, and recreational engagement
- Follow care plans and safety protocols as directed
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided
- Communicate effectively with caregivers, team members, and supervisors
- Respond appropriately to the emotional and behavioral needs of the individual
- Participate in required training and supervision
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs preferred
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if travel is required)
- Ability to pass background checks and required training
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Skills:
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Familiarity with HIPAA and client rights
- Training in behavioral interventions or de-escalation techniques (preferred but not required)
