Purpose of role:
Embedded in the front-office Responsible Investment team, this role works closely with the Head of RI Policy and Implementation to develop and monitor Man Group's RI reporting framework, maintain and improve RI processes, and oversee how RI concepts are incorporated into investment strategies. The role serves as a key point of contact for RI across the broader firm, escalating issues as appropriate, while enabling Man Group to grow its RI offerings and maintain critical controls around RI risks and opportunities.
Specific responsibilities:
Support and assist the Head of RI Policy and Implementation in the execution of the following responsibilities:
Product
- Provide RI expertise and oversight on the launch and conversion of RI funds and strategies, including review of product construction, integration of RI frameworks and offering documents.
- Manage ongoing regulatory reporting obligations including SFDR, SDR, and TCFD and respond to client queries on RI products.
- Interpret the evolving RI regulatory environment and determine how concepts apply across Man Group's diverse investment strategies.
Policies & Frameworks
- Assist in the oversight and implement Man's RI fund categorisation framework, ensuring it meets internal objectives and keeps pace with regulatory developments (e.g. ESMA, SDR and SFDR).
- Assist in the development and maintenance of key RI policies, including the Sustainable Investment Policy, Good Governance Policy, and PAI Policy.
- Ensure investment teams are trained on the RI frameworks and policies within which they operate.
Control Framework
Assist in Man's RI control environment across multiple workstreams:
- Management of the semi-annual principal adverse impact (“PAI”) assessment process;
- Assist in the annual structured review of RI funds, involving investment team interviews and document reviews to verify ongoing commitment and adherence to stated sustainability objectives.
- Act as secretary to the RI Oversight Committee, RI SYSC, Exclusions Sub-Committee, and RI Working Group.
- Manage the investment override process through which portfolio managers can formally contest sustainability classifications, leading the underlying ESG research and maintaining appropriate audit trails.
Exclusions
- Every six months, curate Man's issuer RI exclusions list using external data to systematically screen for potential additions or removals, supplemented by manual review of company reports, Bloomberg data, and client exclusion lists.
- Present findings and recommendations to the Exclusions Sub-Committee for review and formal approval before finalisation.
Stakeholder Management
- Manage stakeholders and maintain strong lines of communication between the RI team and Man’s investment engines, the Compliance team and Sales to support ESG integration into both existing and new products.
- Communicate the policies and framework to interested constituents - these include investment teams, clients, Man sales staff, fund boards and regulators.
- Contribute to various ESG governance committees and working groups within the firm from time to time.
- Provide flexible support across the broader RI team, contributing to ad hoc projects, regulatory developments, and emerging priorities as they arise.
Technical competencies:
- Degree level education.
- IMC, AIMA, ESG CFA or equivalent, an advantage.
- Strong interest in sustainability matters and how these intersect with investment management.
- A good understanding of investment management.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
